As long as the Rat Pack (http://www.h2g2.com/A490853) is still active, a bar will not die.
Back from xmas-holidays, folks!
Does this bar still serve s? If not, a crate of and some s will do.

for Jeremy!
Nice to see you happy and alive. Hope you had a fine holiday.
I visited the Rat Pack, it's something worth of joining exept one little problem - I like to smoke menthol cigarettes sometimes. Is it a fatal error?

I'll hide it the best I can.
So, do you want another or will you join me at some ?
Also there must be some birthdays to celebrate...

Well, here are some jazz birthdays: Bill Crow. Born 1927.
Bunk Johnson. Born 1889.
Walter Norris. Born 1931.
Booty Wood. Born 1919.
And tomorrow:
Earl "Fatha" Hines. Born 1903.
Ted Nash. Born 1959.
Michel Petrucciani. Born 1962.
Lonnie Liston Smith. Born 1940.
Ed Thigpen. Born 1930.
I may not be able to join you for a week or so, but I take it you can get along without me anyway?
BTW: On Xmas eve I saw a program on Frankie Boy. Excellent! I must admit, being an old hippie, he wasn't really my style before. But quality speaks for itself & never goes out of style. Say what you will about his songs and such - but man, he really WAS good!

My word, Pierce, my word!
Frank Sinatra was a real ENTERTAINER. He had a unique style, and he was active for more than half a century. If he hadn't had class and style, he would have vanished within a couple of years. Just think of those who say: "Oh, Frank Sinatra, yes, yes, I'm going to listen to him when I'm dead, just as dead as you are now...", and they say that Hype Master G or the Spicy Freak Boys (enter any fashionable hype "musician's" name here) make the music that will last forever!
It's all nonsense. Classics are those who will last longer that their time.
Paul Simon = classic. (I know, he's not dead, but nevertheless)
Frank Sinatra = classic.
Janis Joplin = classic.
Jimi Hendrix = classic.
Beatles = Classic
.....
The quality of music and entertainment in general doesn't depend on whether you like it or not (that's a matter of personal taste). It just depends on whether it's made properly. And , man, Frank Sinatra knew how to do it.

If I haven't said it before I'd like to repeat it now: Your choice in music and musicians/singer-songwriters is excellent, Jeremy!

Somehow I have to agree with you both. Exept that I think Aqua and Spice Girls are worse than Kenny G. But this might be caused by my daughter who happens to be a great fan of these 2. It's a pity I can't have any influence on her musical taste which is as bad as one can imagine.
Also it seems to me that music can be judged by the music following it. I mean - 10 years ago I thought that the worst what can ever happen is Michael Jackson, now I think he's not so bad at all compare to the last trends in the music. (I still hate MJ, he is not of my kind )
I take a risk to write here some of my favourites hoping you still keep talking to me :
Supertramp
Shocking Blue
Melanie Safka

I know Supertramp, I have heard of Shocking Blue ("Venus"?), but i've never heard of Melanie Safka.
Michael Jackson: He will be one of the classics very soon. You can like his lifestyle or not, but his music is great. There is some similarity with Frank Sinatra: Both know 'How to do it'.

Melanie was on the stage on both Woodstock festivals, her most famous song is "Look what they've done to my song, ma'", I guess. She is best known by the song "Ruby Tuesday" which is originally The Rolling Stones (also one of my favourites).

Oy, Melanie! Now THAT brings back memories!
A word though: For me there was only one Woodstock! (For some there were three) I thought it okay to reminisce and such, but it just wasn't my thing!

I'm sorry, you are right
I used it only to explain who is Melanie Safka.
The sad part of it is that I'm too young to be an expert on these areas (it sounds great to be too young for something) and also in our neighbourhood the first hippies to mention about were noticed in 1980-s or so.

I see.
About age: I have for some years now been boasting about being over one months older than one of my colleagues.
Now he has begun boasting about being over a month younger than me...
"Time can tear down a building
or destroy a woman's face
hours are like diamonds
don't let 'em waste"
PS: Wait, that sounded like I was (still) depressed. Well, I'm not. Not as much as yesterday anyway. See you around!

Usually the age is not a problem at all. At least nothing that couldn't be solved with a little time-travelling-machine. I miss some events which took place before my time. On the other hand I don't want to be 4800 or 14 years old. So I'm happy being as old or young as I am. Also they say that 30-ies are the best age for a woman. Comparing to the previous decades I have to agree with it.

Hey! Did everyone have a nice xmas?

Hati Posted Dec 28, 2000
It depends.
At least they were white. And I met all my relatives (and cooked for all of them). Altogether it was fun. Now I can rest for some days at work and then ...
What about you?

Xmas was absolutely green, but today (28 Dec) snowfall started. New Years Eve is going to be whiter than white, I hope...
