As long as the drinks are not genetically modified...smiley - winkeye

I prefer the natural stuff. Did You know that Germany (esp. bavaria) has a purity law for beer that dates back to 1516 and is still valid?

It says that beer may be produced only from barley, hops and water. (Back in 1516, they didn't know that they used yeast as well, which was omnipresent then).

If you drink German or Bavarian beer, yoou can be sure that you get the natural stuff, without any conservants, stabilizers or other chemistry. It has a rather early date-of-expiry, however, but has that ever been a real problem?

Hezher, just drinking it is what I usually do smiley - smiley. But if you grow up in a country where they take their beer serious, you inevitably develop a full time awareness of that stuff.

And that's what I'm going to do right now: Taking two or three smiley - ale's seriously.

If you want me to, I can bring some Bavarian beer the next time I come in here.

I was born and grew up in Germany, so naturally I know all about it, Jeremy. Does "Flasch Flens" ring a bell?

Oh yes, it does. I don't really like that 'Boelkstoff', to be honest.

Too industrial, too northern smiley - ill, but that's just a matter of taste.

I prefer the local southern brands (no need to transport loads of beer over thousands of km's, if you have the good stuff at hand)

I could, but I'd have to sit in another corner then. Gave up smoking (again) just one month ago when my asthma returned after having been gone for aprox. 45 years.

So now I'll have to eat spiced brownies in order to - well, you know... smiley - winkeye

Hey, if anyone thinks they can do the karaoke here they will be shot imidiately! smiley - smiley

I think I'll just go outdoors for 7 minutes. BTW my asthma kinda copes with my smoking, but maybe it's because I've smoked over 15 years already and I got asthma only 10 years ago. I am a smoker now and there's nothing I want to do to quit right now, I don't feel so. (I've quitted smoking for several times smiley - smiley but the longest period was about 2 years when I had a baby)

You have my blessing to shoot all the karaoke-singers immediately. smiley - grr

Thank you! smiley - smiley

Smoking is a private matter, only were you smoke is a social matter.

I didn't stop smoking to live longer, but to live better. It works.

Sorry, have to return to RL. Will be back!

*Enters the bar with five different beer crates on a trolley. Stores them carefully in the fridge (thanks God it's a large fridge)*

Hi everybody, as promised I brought you some samples of Bavarian beer.

First, we have some excellent Weizenbier (wheat beer) from a small brewery in Southeast Bavaria, called 'Kößlarner' (Koesslarner without the 'umlauts'). The brewery has a really small annual output, but the beer's a delicacy. It is, frankly, the best I know.

Second, we have another Weizenbier from Southeast Bavaria. It comes from a slightly larger brewery. This has the advantage of better availability.

Third, we have some 'Helles' (light beer, but not light vs. heavy, but light vs. dark) from a brewery in Passau. It's some excellent stuff, it has a yoke lid (??, I might need some second language help on that term), which allows to seal it again when you don't drink the whole pint (never happend to me, so far smiley - winkeye)

Fourth, there's some 'Dunkles Weizenbier' (dark wheat beer) from a brewery near Regensburg, called "Schneider". I provided it for completeness and variety. It's very popular, and tens of thousands of beer drinkers can'T go wrong. It's not quite my personal taste, but what the heck ...

Fifth, there's some 'Weizenbock' (wheatbuck, the etymology is too hard to explain, just leave it as it is smiley - winkeye) from Erding (that's near the Munich airport). It's one of the strongest beers around, you might even say it's one of the PGGBs of beers. Take three of them and you hear the angels sing ...

Have fun!

And before I forget it, we have two birthdays to celebrate:

The great old man of stand up comedians, Mr. Rodney Dangerfield, was born this day in 1922. Three smiley - ales to you, Rodney!

Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, has her 42nd birthday today. Three smiley - bubblys to you, Jamie Lee!
