A Conversation for Identifying U.S. Regions by Cooking
Sand in a Pot

Why do people eat grits? I don't get it. And they have such... firm opinions about it. I have seen Southerners eat grits with really weird things on/in them (eggs & cheese, ketchup (!), sausage gravy) and get really uptight when I wanted sugar, milk, and perhaps some cinnamon in the northern style of Cream of Wheat.
Also, some people will try to equate grits with polenta. Do not, under any circumstances, believe this. Think, "Sand in a pot" and order biscuits.
