Another indicator of where you are in the US is how you order a carbonated beverage. In the northeast, it is always "soda." In the midwest, it is "pop." I have heard but have not noticed for myself that in the south, especially in Georgia, all carbonated beverages are referred to as "coke."
So you could go into a restaurant and ask what kind of drinks they have, and identify the region by the response.
