I do not think you can see darkness. You can only see that you cannot see. (if you get what it mean).

Surely the answer is nothing:

Nothing is made from nothing
And you can't see it therefore it can't be visible.

Bagpuss, you've slightly missed the point of 'nothing' as an answer as it's valid whichever way the cookie crumbles, whether that be in a positive (nothing - by definition - is made of nothing, so anything that you can see made of it must be nothing too: 0*0=0) or a negative sense (there are no things made of nothing that can be seen: FALSE=0).

But 0^0=1, Mycroft!

That's merely because the ^ incorporates a value of unity, as can be demonstrated by looking at any clay tablet of a mathematical nature from between the second and ninth Sumerian dynasties, where the cuneiform symbol ^ denotes 1.
