I beleive these could be the initials of researchers nicknames.
I'm CS for starters.

Indeed. So who are the others, and can we deduce the missing ones, or are we barking up thew wrong tree? My other idea was car models.

G - Greydesk?
Car models, like MM - Morris Minor, etc. Other than that, I'll have to review the situation...
AT LEAST CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE

Okay then folks - fill in the missing entries (those with a '??') :
-, MM, ??, TJ, NS, LA, ??, W, L, CS, ??, SE, RC, DD, A, GK, TT, SC, G, M.
Any chance of a clue then????
No.
The Ghost of Polidari Posted Feb 10, 2003
They are indeed initials. Apart from that no-one very close so far.
For a clue - umm, well the 3 missing entries are actually all the same.
No. Is that a clue?
Beatrice Posted Feb 10, 2003
I'm intrigued by the "-" as the first in the list.....and all the others are only one or 2 initials...does the fact that there are 2 question marks suggest that the missing one is a double? And why aren't there any longer than that?
My Word!
The Ghost of Polidari Posted Feb 10, 2003
Sorry - simulpost.
The No was to Mickey and Mr Chesterton.
Yes to the fact that the missing ones are 2 initials.
For most of them (the earlier ones especially) then the reason that there's only one or two initials is quite straightforward. For the later ones there might have been longer ones, but I guess it just didn't work out that way...

There seem to be twenty sest of initials, assuming the hyphen is *someone/thing*
Twenty = number of posts per page in a thread...
Are these all hootoo *researchers*?
(could explain the 3 sets of *??* being the same person/thing )
Russ Abbott is not on the list...
The Ghost of Polidari Posted Feb 10, 2003
The number of sets is important, but not for the reason you're looking at.

Beatrice Posted Feb 10, 2003
*just notices subject line change*
So there's no Atmosphere then?
Hmmm....things that have landed on the Moon?
I was about to say something to the effect that Goldie and Madonna had single intials, but they havent won the Worthington Cup over the last 20 years, so it cant be that.
*adopts "Rodin's - The Thinker" pose*
Russ Abbott is not on the list...

* has no good ideas; gives up on load of 20 strange initials; smiles at seeing that we have just passed 5000 postings ; carries on regardless *

I hate to say it but Luckystar just got one of the initials...

Beatrice Posted Feb 10, 2003

*jumps up and down excitedly*
