You've got a start with Homer (though not gloves). Indian Tribes/Village People don't come into it.

It was a mu-mu (or possibly miu-miu)

One of topcat's gang was Choo choo (yellow one with a straight hat?)

We've already got Boo boo

Honolulu could be shortened to Lulu

just leaves the 151/ 251.

*goes through the alphabet ..doo-doo, pooh-pooh, noo-noo, tutu...*

You're on the right lines with your "oo-s", but I wouldn't spell that garment either as "mu-mu" or as "miu-miu".
And Choo-Choo is pink, so that's wrong.
(Go for the Honolulu clue last; it's creaky. We aren't generally Hawaiian here...)

...and forget u-controllers *shudder*

The garment is a muu-muu.

It seems like the similarity so far is a word or name that contains a double vowel, and the first syllable is spelled exactly the same as the second.

Very close. Syllables needn't be identical, though. Double double-vowel is the point.

So the rest are....

Unlike Clelba, who sometimes says she has nothing to say smiley - biggrin, I am inclined to say quite a bit when I have nothing to say. Especially when I have nothing to say.

Thats a double a, a double o and a double u so far. I guess the others will have a double ee and a double i.

I've found pics of Top Cat, and he's the yellow one with a straight hat. He's referred to as T.C. (Tee Cee<?&gtsmiley - winkeye

The yellow one with the straight head-gear is indeed LaaLaa (Teletubby)

Two to go, and they are a double "ee" and a double "ii". (The latter's really clunky, I'll admit. Just you try finding a good one...)
