A Conversation for Myst

I wrote a very in depth entry on Myst, the CD-ROM Game. I have been eyeing the Edited Guide greedily. This seems like the perfect solution. Read it and tell me what you think.

I think it's pretty informative to Myst-ers and non Myst-ers alike... I'm especially interested in what the non Myst-ers think.

It's got a lot of promise and should (with the odd tweak) form a fine Edited article. For further comments see the article forum.

It's been tweaked a little. Amongst other things that were reccomended, I added how the game starts, but I'm not sure if that was a good call or not.

I liked it, except for the spoiler. I am not sure if it should be in there - as a non-myst player, it could spoil things (only a wee bit, but still) a bitty smiley - sadface However I am a games purist - never cheat, no walk throughs etc. I buy the game to play, explore and find things, not to finish - so such spoilers are not my way smiley - smiley However, it is just a personal opinion, and this is a fine Entry, and should have little bother (I would have thought) about getting into the Edited Guide smiley - smiley Until later.....

How about putting the spoiler on a different entry, and just putting a link there for anyone who wanted the story's inside scoop?

I think I'll try that and see what reaction I get, because the position/prescence of the spoiler seems to be the main thing I'm hearing about.

Beautiful. I really haven't played computer adventure games since the days of Zork. (I bought the Infocom Hitchhiker's Guide, naturally too) Everything I've seen ads for lately looked so violent I had no interest really in checking them out....I may check Myst out...even if I am years late getting into it.

I'm so glad that I read it after you moved the spoiler away...I am assuming that the spoiler is as well-written as the rest...

We Scouts pick an entry to recommend every four weeks (there are enough of us that at least one gets picked every day). If I hadn't just picked an entry earlier this evening, I'd pick this one. However, I am sure someone else will, this entry is well-deserving. I hope they allow it to go in as two entries and keep the spoiler separate.

For anyone who wants to know w/o reading the spoiler, all the spoiler really is is a short description of the plot, characters and a very vague note about what you're supposed to do in the game-- a grand total of less than a dozen lines.

But, then for some, even revealing the intro can be considred "spoiling" the game... but I don't think the nature of the game is quite communicated without it, now that I look at that bit.

Cenchrea,

I have some good news. I was told I couldn't recommend the entry that I previously selected. Which of course freed me to recommend yours. They liked your entry, so it is moving "into the Editorial Process for future inclusion in the Edited Guide. When it does get into the Edited Guide, we will email to let you know, but please bear in mind it can take a while for entries to go through the sub-editing system."

You have a really good entry there. Keep writing.
