So perhaps I should alter my practices to include all links in the entry and in tags?
Okay, I've got some fun stuff to do today!

A few thoughts.
As this entry is on the history of Girl Guiding, I think it would be useful to explain in the introduction that what is now Girlguiding was originally Girl Guiding -- even a footnote would be ok, but I think it should be pointed out.
In the years, a colon or dash should be used, but not a semi-colon.
The above and below the quote should be removed, and a single set of around the quote should be used instead. is used with blockquotes, but to separate lines of text within blockquotes, not to create gaps of space around the quote.
My main concern at this point is that I think there are many items on the list of years that would have absolutely no meaning to someone not familiar with the subject, and no explanations are given -- this is especially the case with the later years. I realize that you may not have been able to find more information for some of these items, but I'd rather see less important items dropped from what is quite a long list than have them remain as telegraphic bullet points which won't make sense to an outsider.

> which do you suggest I drop?
Right now, here are the ones I would suggest -- if any of these are things you feel are really important, I would suggest expanding them a bit so that their meaning is more clear to people not familiar with Guiding.
2006; Rangers will celebrate their 90th birthday. -- I think this one is a bit redundant given the 75th anniversary already there for 1991
2005; From August this year, new promise badges will be available for all sections and will feature the updated 'identity trefoil'. -- What are promise badges? And because this is for all sections, how important is it to the history of the Senior Section per se?
1994; Look Wider (a new programme) was launched for the Senior Section and a new promise and promise badge was launched for all sections. -- if this is important, than I would explain this some more, especially as the Look Wider programme isn't mentioned when you go into the different programs at the bottom
1977; Rangers Diamond Jubilee.
1969; Girlguiding UK recognise mixed units of Ranger Guides and Venture Scouts. -- This may well be important enough to leave in, I'm not sure. By mixed units, do you mean co-ed? And by Venture Scouts do you mean Boy Scouts? We have Venture Scouts here, but it is a co-ed scouting program run by the Boy Scouts, it has no connection to the Girl Scouts. How does this figure into WAGGGS longstanding opposition against member nations spreading into coed groups? (The latter is likely far too complex to go into here, but it does leave me confused).
1968; Rangers start on a brand new eight point programme. -- As it stands, I don't think most people will have any idea what this means -- so I would either expand or drop.
1948; A new permit allowing Rangers to hike overnight was introduced (The Ranger Overnight Hike Permit). -- I guess it's hard for me to see this as a big deal. Did it truly have a big impact on the Senior programme?
1944; Land Rangers are given their own scheme and plans are drawn up towards setting up an Air Section. -- What are Land Rangers? I can guess at Sea Guides and Air Rangers, but Land? How was it different than regular Rangers?
Also --
1983; The Queens Guide Award was made part of the Ranger programme. -- I do think this one is worth leaving in, but I do think it needs a sentence of explanation. For all the readers know, this could be a special award for having a smartly pressed uniform.
1927; Rangers, Sea Guides and Cadets were brought together as a single branch by a newly launched programme. -- Cadets hadn't been mentioned previously, so people may be confused. Did the newly launched programme have its own name?
And because the entry's title refers to the Senior Section, but it isn't called that until quite a ways into the history, I think it might be worth mentioning in the intro that what is now the Senior Section has gone through many decades of evolution in programmes and names.

*sigh*

I had a problem with writing an entry about scouting since I know nothing about it!

Done, cadets had been mentioned before in the "1916" section, and I don't know what the programme was called, would you still like me to take that section out?

If you don't know what that programme was called, then I would probably take that line out, as it doesn't have a whole lot of meaning as it is.
Also, the semi-colons ( still need to be replaced with colons ( or dashes (-), as I posted earlier.

agh, they turned my punctuation marks into smileys on me!
semicolons ;
colons :
dashes -
I put these there because I have a feeling they may not be called the same thing in the UK -- but regardless, using the ; after the dates is not the way to go here.

Got a few extra pick-ups before we can accept this as the Update, so I hope you're still keen
Where you have the tags as ... I'm afraid these need to be changed around. It should be the tags on the outside with the tags inside.
In the blockquotes, remove the double inverted commas.
For the final link to the Guides website, this would be better if it apeared as a reference link instead. You can do this by creating a section in-between the and tags at the bottom of the page. Inside this section, put the URL as follows:
That's a closed link that, because it's hidden between the Reference tags, doesn't need to be wrapped around other words like normal links.
If you can look at these few points, we might be able to make this the update just as the first of your new entries hitting the Front Page.
