Could you put the text through a spell checker?

There are plenty of typos in the intro.

Hi Mizzpinky smiley - smiley

I've not posted in update Forum before, but as far as I'm aware all editing is done here, all 't's crossed, and all dots, dotted. smiley - smiley

>"1926 Rangers are allowed to camp with a guider if they have taken the Camp Craft Badge,"

Has a comma, which should be a full stop. Also quite a few in the list are missing their full stop. smiley - smiley

You have some "double quotes" that should be 'single quotes'

Subheader 'link' should have a capital 'L'

There were a few Guiding links in the original Entry, they need to be worked into this one. smiley - oksmiley - smiley

smiley - laugh Looks like I've been seeing things. smiley - diva thought I'd seen the links at the bottom of the Entry, I couldn't have done. smiley - doh (Hope Kat's not watching me LOL)

Ok Mizzpinky, smiley - smiley

Copy and paste below to the bottom of your Entry, in between and smiley - ok

I think makes the most difference when accessing via a mobile phone, to see what that looks like: Go to your Entry, in the URL delete your skin preference, (Brunel/Alabaster etc) and replace with PDA and click 'Go' amd press 'Enter' on keyboard. smiley - magic

Okay, because the Update Forum doesn't send stuff on to sub-editors, all the poking and prodding needs to be done here.
Sorry nobody has come along and poked this for you, I'm going to do it now...sorry if it's really long, I'm in a particularly picky mood. smiley - smiley

"Girlguiding is now almost a 100 years old, and is a movement enjoyed by girls worldwide. Hard to believe all this came from an idea, one man had, to keep boys occupied."
WHO is this man by the way? Lord Baden Powell? You need to say this then and perhaps shift the info around to include that and not repeat it later.

smiley - smiley Would this be better phrased as
"Girl Guiding UK has been active for nearly a century, and is enjoyed by girls across the globe. It's hard to believe that all of this came from an idea that one man had...to keep boys occupied."

smiley - smiley Headers need to have capitalised first letters for each word (there's some argument about this but I firmly think it looks better)

smiley - smiley Some of the years seem to be in past tense, some in present. Can you double check through and make sure they are all the same please, past or present could work.

smiley - smileyThe whole of "1916" is a bit confusing. Have a read through, read it out loud if you can, and see if you can word it better. If you find it difficult I'll be happy to take a look at it.

"Mrs Mark Kerr, took on responsibility for the Senior Guides."
smiley - smiley Random comma after Mrs Mark Kerr

"She was asked to do this by Lord Baden Powell (Girl Guiding UK’s founder) and to work to a scheme that he had set out for the Senior Guides."
smiley - smiley Ooooh what's going on here then? Repeated info that needs to be moved to the top (Lord Powell). What were his plans for the Senior Guides? By the by, what age did Senior Guides go from and to?

"Following the publication of the Senior Guides Scheme a pamphlet stating aims and objectives was published for Senior Guides, called 'Senior Guides'."
smiley - smiley You've changed the word order for the Senior Scheme from before the quotation. Which one is the *official* title? Stick with that one even if it seems boring. What's the difference between the published Scheme and the pamphlet? This sentence also needs a slight rejig but you might rewrite it anyway so I'll let it alone for the moment.

"The County Commissioners Conference approved the name 'Ranger' for the Senior Guides to now be called. During this same year, for girls over 16 who were interested in sea-faring activities, Sea Guides were started."
smiley - smiley The County Commissioners' Conference approved the Senior Guides to be referred to as 'Rangers'. In the same year, Sea Guides was started for girls over the age of 16 who were interested in sea-faring activities.

smiley - laugh Sorry I'm amused by "sea-faring". I can't think of anything better but it makes me think of a pirate ship full of Guides!

"Rangers are allowed to camp with a guider if they have taken the Camp Craft Badge."
smiley - smiley Should that be a capital Guider? What is a Guider? You mean a normal Guide or what?

"Rangers, Sea Guides and Cadets are brought together as a single branch by a newly launched programme."
smiley - smiley Called...? Started by whom?

smiley - smiley By the way, you've got Guides, Guiders, Sea Guides, Cadets, Ranger Guiders and Ranger Guides around...Guides or Guiders???!!!

"It was to prepare Rangers for war service by giving them a quick intensive training course. It was open to Rangers who were not engaged already with some other war service. The girls had to be of 15 and over and had to be willing to sacrifice time and energy to fit themselves for such work."
smiley - smiley The course aimed to prepare Rangers for war service by giving them quick and intensive training. It was open to Rangers who were not already engaged in wawr service. Girls had to be aged 15 or over and willing to sacrifice the time and energy needed for such work. (Although actually I don't like the end of that sentence.)

"Because of the war the age range for Rangers was lowered to 14."
smiley - smiley You never said what age Rangers started from in the first place! smiley - tongueout Anyway...
As the war dragged on, demand for service resulted in the entrance age for Rangers being lowered to 14.

"The Rangers celebrated their 25th birthday, they were still helping out with the war effort by doing such things as messenger work and fire watching."
smiley - smiley The Rangers celebrated their 25th birthday, whilst continuing to help with the war effort by, among other things, running messenger services and fire watching.

"such as the WRNS"
smiley - smiley just need a comma after that bit

smiley - smiley WHAT are Land Rangers??? What on Earth do they do????

"Air Rangers are officially accepted and are able to name there units after flights."
smiley - smiley Whoops! Wrong there (their). What flights? RAF ones I presume?

Is your entry on the Award edited yet? If so, LINK to it! smiley - smiley

"For the Festival of Britain, London, Rangers make displays. London Holds a Cadet Rally."
smiley - smiley Rangers made displays (such as???) for the Festival of Britain, held in London. A Cadet Rally also took place (you want to say something about this? I assume it brought all the divisions together or something?)

"(During this time this appointment was held by Lady Baden Powell)"
smiley - smiley (At the time this position was held...)

"A new uniform is introduced consisting of, an aquamarine blouse, navy blue skirt and cap, piped with aquamarine to coincide with the Senior Branch now being renamed the Ranger Guide Service Section."
smiley - smiley A new uniform is/was introduced to coincide with the renaming of the Senior Banch to The Ranger Guide Service Section. The uniform consists of an aquamarine blouse, navy blue skirt and cap, piped in aquamarine.

"The Ranger Guide Service Section changes it’s name..."
smiley - smiley Strange apostrophe usage alert! its, not it's. Chop and change don't they these Guides! Can't stick with one name long enough for everyone to learn it!

"Rangers Diamond Jubilee."
smiley - smiley Ach come on! There's got to be something more to say about this, some guest or something? where was it held?

"Look wider (a new programme) is lunched for the Senior Section and a new promise and promise badge is launched for all sections"
smiley - smiley Capital on wider? and...yum yum lunching Senior Guides...smiley - laugh

"Young Leaders can be from age 14 to 26."
"Rangers can be from age 14 to 26."
smiley - smiley Young Leaders(Rangers) can be aged from 14 to 26

"The emphasis here tends to be towards the outdoor adventurer."
smiley - smiley The emphasis here tends to be towards outdoor pursuits

"About one-third of the membership..."
smiley - smiley one third

Okay...that's it...for the minute smiley - evilgrin. There's definitely scope for putting links in throughout the entry. You don't seem to like doing this very much but it's a good idea and something that your sub-editor would usually do, so take a look and see if you can't sneak some in.

Hope all that helps a bit

Kat

right then

I've done all I can do.

with your questions about guides, guiders and ranger guiders this is

Adult leaders are called Guiders

therefore Rainbows have Rainbow Guiders

Brownies = Brownie Guiders

Guides = Guide Guiders

Rangers = Ranger Guiders

Young leaders = Young leader Guiders

But I'm not sure where and how I can work that in
