Looking good sprout
Do you think it is worth mentioning the joys of the planning application process in here? Some changes, particularly major structural ones, stuff that changes the external elevations, or (I think) anything to do with party walls will need to you to obtain planning permission before you go ahead with the work. If you live in a conservation area or have a listed house the planning process can be very complicated and it can be difficult to get even the most minor changes approved.

OK
Got the typos, added more links, and a few little bits.
Added Big Al to the writing list - for his story of woe about his greenhouse. I especially like the bit where the builders filled his old bath with cement.
Added a few bits more on planning - don't want to go beyond generalities because it varies a lot from country to country. In Belgium, where I live, you can do a lot to the back of your house without planning, but have to be very careful at the front (out of sight out of mind...) The UK, as far as I am aware, is different again.
I reckon this is nearly finished now.

Hi Sprout,
Looks like you've 'cleaned up' on this piece now Sprout. Perhaps it is all 'done and dusted' as they say. But I do think you deserve to keep all the credit to yourself. There may be more postings to come yet, but they will go on for as long as you want them to, and beyond! The question you have to ask yourself is 'Am I satisfied with the piece at this point in time?' And make your decision on that basis. It can be amended anytime, of course.
scr, (formerly you know who!)

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Congratulations Sprout. I just knew you had a winner with this one when I first saw it. You presented it in a very polished way right from the start.

Excellent Sprout
Very comprehensive - Could you just write a footnote for my wife explaining that I shouldn't be allowed to do DIY under any circumstances ?
