Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

I admit to some trepidation when I read the title but it's a nice articlesmiley - ok. It's short but none the worse for that and you seem to have covered everything, if that's the right phrase to use.

There are a few matters of grammar, spelling and punctuation to attend to and the sentence that begins "After leaving school, Danny attached HMS Excellent..." makes no sense to me at all. What were you trying to say?

Amy smiley - ant

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

The first time I saw the balloon dance was on Chris Tarrant's rater thin follow-up to Tiswas - OTT. Is that when the Oddballs first found nationwide fame? I do recall people talking about it for a few days afterwards smiley - smiley

Quirky little entries like this are scattered throughout the Edited Guide, so I don't see a problem with this one earning a place.

You might want to reword it a bit, though, so it's less similar to the content found at http://www.balloondancer.co.uk/comicdb/comedian.html.

Gnomon - time to move on

I'd love to see more of a description of the dance itself. All you say is that they men are naked and that they have balloons. Can you tell us more? Do the three men stand in line and do identical actions? Is it like ballroom dancing? Like disco dancing? Jive? Break dancing?

YalsonKSA - "I'm glad birthdays don't come round regularly, as I'm not sure I could do that too often."

I seem to recall seeing this done once. Didn't it involve the people involved having a certain number of balloons held over their 'vulnerable' areas which burst during the course of the dance leaving them more and more compromised?

I'm also sure that when I saw it on TV, one of the protagonists was the late Malcolm Hardy, former proprietor of The Comedy Store.

As in "left the building"?smiley - laugh

That's two things I've learned today.

The other was "the search engine was bjorked" - I assumed that meant slow and made horrible screechy noises?

Had to smile at Amy's puns, smiley - smiley and, having "seen" the original balloon dance, they did a kind of jerky-movement-type thing, in a row, whilst moving the balloons very quickly, swopping them around, smiley - erm to spare the audience's blushes, except that when the performance ended, one member of the troupe dropped his balloons and walked off, smiley - blushthe camera was still on him thoughsmiley - yikes The music it was performed to was very well known, but it wasn't "The Stripper" - as the dance itself isn't a strip - da da da, der da da da da da, the lads moved sideways in step, swopping their top balloon with the bottom balloon, or front with back, smiley - erm will that do for a description, GD?smiley - blush

Racking my brains as to the programme - it definately wasn't TISWAS which was a children's programme - it was Chris Tarrant though - I remember how embarrased he was - I think it was his late-night show, OTT.

I second the move back to the entry, GreyDesk.
