Give me GOO :-(
Orcus Started conversation May 31, 2006
Since the update this morning, every time I come on site, it defaults to Brunel despite the fact that I have Goo set in my preferences.
I always come here by typing www.h2g2.com if that makes a difference.
I'm using MacOSX 10.3.9 and Safari as my browser.

Travelelr in Time skinconfused
"Setting preference to Classic defaults to brunel.
Setting to Plain defaults to Alabaster
Setting to Alabaster the preference stays but the skin defaults to brunel "

There's definitely a new bug there. It's storing the preference in the database, but the code which should read it and use it in preference to the default looks like it has broken.
Probably best to bookmark a link with the skin name in it already, until we get this fixed.

I went to preferences and hit the update button and the brunel changed back to alabaster. Also, my intro wasn't coming up, but returned when I hit the update button.

Will do Jim, actually I can change it quite easily by simply starting to type 'classic' at the end of the URL and the autocompleter finishes it all for me. Simple really but I look forward to not having to do this in the fullness of time

Nothing seems to happen when set to brunel though. Which from one point of view is a shame because there might have been a loop of skins or a completely new one to be found (like all those silly keypresses on games consoles and hidden "eggs" etc).

It seems to be completely skipping the code which looks at your preference when deciding which skin to use.

12 hours later, logged in again and got Goo frames - this time using Firefox, earlier log in was in Opera

Orcus Posted Jun 1, 2006
But how did you log in?
If you've bookmarked it to use a default skin in the bookmark then it will work won't it.
Besides, I don;t really give a toss if it works for you. It doesn't for me, ergo there is still a bug.

Nope... not bookmarked
And I don't think I've ever logged in using (this version of) Firefox either... and I doubt if I ever will again - but that's another issue

Now, where's that harpoon?

It's not working for me now either.
I've book-marked my personal space and when I click on it it's in horrible green brunel.
I've just logged out and logged back in again and this has had no effect apparent when I log in my preferences are still not being checked.
I'll do as Jim suggests and edit my bookmark for now.

You seem to be have the misguided idea that my nickname has anything to do with whales Six7s
It's far sadder than that I can assure you.
Anyway forgive my loss of temper earlier, In my bleary eyed morning log-in that came across to me as ' there must be something wrong with you because it works fine for me'.

I just never log-out. And have my hootoo page (on IE) bookmarked as my 'home page'. So didn't get any of the dreaded and hideously ugly Brunel stuff happening. What is it with those gross colours??? Totally ick.
On Firefox I have other biz things set up as my home page - works for me.
Just wondering, is there a reason why people using their own computers at home sign out from h2g2?

Orcus Posted Jun 1, 2006
Personally I'm not at home when I post here during the week (so sack me ) as I don't have an internet connection away from work currently.
That's what you get for having a politician as your landlord, lots of promises and plenty of inaction
But actually I'm always signed in as you are (or at least I have the remember me box ticked) - otherwise I wouldn't complain as Brunel is the default skin and that wouldn't be a bug.
I just type www.h2g2.com to get here. I rarely use bookmarks as I find it more convenient just to type in the URL.
