"So, took 2 hours from 7 till 9 to put this update onto the servers and it's now going to take DAYS to rectify????"
Well yes, possibly. It doesn't take long to apply a software update, but that update is the end result of months of work. Any changes we now make have to be written and tested before they can go live. Hence it could easily take a few days before we're happy to release a change to live.

Couldn't you restore the previous version in the interim?

Jim Lynn Posted Feb 15, 2006
No because restoring the previous version requires the same amount of testing as doing a different fix. The problem comes because we'd be switching back to immediate update, but the queue is still running, so immediate updates would keep getting overwritten by the queue processing.

So what went wrong with the previous testing you should have done but which failed to spot that things were so badly broken?

I assume the extracted post there is by someone on pre-mod - it's only a minute old.
I would like to congratulate Jim on his patience with us all.
