The Chinese were the first great explorers sailing the Indian ocean. They discovered Arabia and Africa by following the seasonal winds. When they arrived in Africa they had to wait for the winds to turn to get back to China. Many got bored during this time and they invented some remarkable games, such as Dodominoes. Later these periods of windless ness were known as dodoldrums.
As the first Chinese set foot on Mauritius they found the shiny black toe nails of the Dodo being the perfect size and shape to create Dodomino bones. With each Dodo just only having eight toe nails they needed four Dodos to make a game.
The name Dodomino is derived from the Chinese for toe nail min noi They pronounced it as Dodominnoi and later as Dodomino as we know it nowadays.
The dots used as marking on the Dodomino bones are known as micrododots. When you have played your last bone you cry out loud Coo! The famous sound the Dodo makes when you step on his toe.
