Hi DD and Joanna,
You have my vote in this campaign for several reasons:
1. (and most important): I like both of you, guys
2. you are very busy in going around in h2g2: writting many articles,
making many postings, so I guess, you love it the same way as I do
3. you are very good in involving newbies to this community - this IS
important, 'cause at the beginning everyone feels a little bit lost
4. you have FUN, and this is the mood, in which we should communicate
5. on the other side: you are not passing by on difficult subjects;
sometimes there is a need to be a little serious - the RL cannot be totally forgotten (allthough it would be much easier!)
I would propose: lets proclaime the donut/doughnut the welcomming sweet to every newbie on h2g2.
And - as I'm not from the UK or the States: maybe there should be a possibility for submitting and then of course approving entries also in other languages then English. I think, maybe in 5 main languages, which are used on Earth (English, German, Italian, French and Spanish). I'm not sure about others, but I do know that on h2g2 is a big German community, so maybe you should think about it?

Eomando, checking up on us were you?
Speaking of Newbies we got involved in the community here's one we helped earlier.
I also see you point about languages. The German community sure is thriving and I think should have it's own ACEs if there aren't some already. Too many of us get by on rusty school time stuff in trying.
I'll add it to the manifesto.

Of course I'm checking up on you...
...and you were there when I was a newbie too...I don't forget things like that...
..and surely there's no need for there to be separate German ACE's...there're lots of ACE's who *are* German...there's no need to draw a line between everyone...
...and no-one says you have to be an ACE to welcome people...

True all true. And I know there were only three German ACEs when DNA did his plug in Germany and the result was a lot of overworked ACEs
Me and Joanna didn't ACE you as ACEs now did we.
However people kept saying we did it so well we should become official ones. If we weren't we'd still be out there doing exactly the same as we always did.
I do however think there needs to be some recognition that not all of us speak British English as a first language though.

I never said you ACE'd me...you just paid a visit...
and yes...some recognition would be good...but there's very likely already a lot of it...
I'll have to ask PP...
...then again, having to ask proves your point... though i've seen a lot of German forums out there...
not just German either...

*grins* Before you have to ask me, I may as well reply...
Hm... Well, it's true there's quite a big German community, mainly due to DNA's Germany trip...
But... well... that's just that community, and as far as I know, there really isn't much "official" recognition of the fact...
I don't know of any other language besides German and English, spoken, either...
Hm... I *think* I saw a French forum somewhere... but it was a long time ago, and it was just a single thread...
Yes... That's definitely too little recognition...

I don't think, there is really a need to make a recognition, who is who, because if someone likes to tell, he/she can do it in the forums.
All I'm sugesting is, that there should be an opportunity to put entries in other languages, than English - I don't think, for example, that Aliens speak also this particular language - and that we should have some variety in h2g2, if we would like to make it bigger and reach much more people in the RL. I spoke about those 5 languages, because this is a beginning. Who knows, maybe in the future, there would be also entries in Chinese, Portughiese or Polish.
I just like the thought this community will be growing!

Hm... Well... True enough...
...but on the other hand, if we don't have a "standard" language for entries, and GOD still hasn't decided to prove his non-existance by giving us the Babel Fish, we'd have the problem of having to put every entry up in several languages...
I mean, it's OK to have communities like the German pages here... but IMHO, it's better to have the entries that are actually supposed to give information in English... Or at least in English & some other language... English is what basically everyone speaks, after all...
Otherwise, I agree... There should be a chance for everyone to speak any language he/she likes...
