This is just an excuse to provide one of my favourite-ever links on the Internet - the '70s knitting pattern that enabled fans to knit their very own one-legged Bowie leotard: http://www.5years.com/costume2.htm
I how I would *love* to meet someone who knitted themselves one of these! I'm sure it would go down a storm in some northern industrial town!

On the subject of outfits, he's had some great ones in his time, hasn't he? There's that (extremely short) white kimono-type thing which he looks absolutely gorgeous in, and the great costume he wore for the Ashes to Ashes video. And he looks rather good in dresses too, as proved by the Man Who Sold the World album cover .
And lovely make up too... the Aladdin Sane lightning stripe is fantastic. And his eyes! I love his eyes so much! Does anyone know the details of the famous incident that made his eyes the way they are?

Ah the kimono thing! How loverly!
I have read that his eyes are the excellent colorS that they are due to a fight he had with a friend over a girl. I suppose this was back when he was about 19 or 20, though I am not sure. Actually I am not sure about any of this, as I read it in a French biography of David Bowie and French isn't exactly my forte. I believe the story goes that they fought and his friend punched him in the eye, it dislocated something and made the pupil permanently dilated, and, I suppose, changed the color of the iris. I believe he still has sight in that eye though, the left one it is.
Anyone know for sure if that account is accurate or slightly skewed?

I've always wondered how Mick Ronson felt about the outfits he was asked to wear. You can imagine the conversation:
"Mick, I've got this gorgeous baby blue Prince Regent number for you". Mick, in broad Hull accent, "I'm not wearin that, you gret big southern ponce."
Hehehe

Oh totally...I often relive in my brain Mick still holding onto his job as a gardener with Hull City Council ('it was a good job') while Bowie's forcing him into all these gold catsuits...
Key: Complain about this post
