Escape Pod Dreams - the 'Behaviour Issue'
Grown-ups are so arrogant
When people misbehave as children and teens they dignify it in some way. When their children do the same thing they either punish them or excuse them. Yet they expect other people's children and other people to behave better than they do. Don't steal from the thief. Don't cheat the drug dealer. Don't physically abuse the thug. And don't punish their child if he or she decides to follow in mummy's footsteps. After all, it is only social conditioning, and the oppression of the Popo, that have made the child into something other than the angel she was born to be. Besides, the government has let in all these weirdos who have bizarre customs and do strange things to each other and their children and women, and the Police and Social Services dignify some things and excoriate the others, often without any respect to just simple civility and local custom. How do I explain to my kids how these foreigners can do this strange stuff but we have to behave like white people? What do you mean, they had civilization 300 years before us? If that's true civilization, then I don't want any part of it!
