Also, it was hinted in "The Apple" that the enterprise has a seperable saucer section.

Kirks words were: "Discard the warp nacelles, and crack outta there with that main section, but get this ship outta here!* Assuming the main section is the engineering hull, this would mean the saucer could come off.

yeah, that's a definate hint at separation there. i did hear that gene rodenberry did thinki of that as an idea for how to get them down onto a planet (before he came up with the transporter), but it would have ben too expensive.

No, but did you know that the transporter effect, while it looks expensive and complex, was actually just a basic fade-out/in on the same scene with some glitter thrown in?

yeah. i'd heard that they used bits of tin foil.

did you know that the forcefield was the silver stuff used to make as cheerleader's pom-pom?

No, but did you know that Jeri Ryan(Seven of Nine, ST:Voy) was interviewed recently, and said that she hated forcefield scenes, because you just threw yourself at nothing and had to react by flying backward?

can't blame her. hadn't thought of acting it like that. suppose it must be tricky.

So, run out of facts? here's one: The US government has developed a phaser. It can do a stun beam or a cloud of gas that can stun people. the Air Force is also developing transporters and a lab in Japan has begun development of a cloaking device, with some effect.smiley - smiley

seriously? i think hyposprays were developed a few years ago, but don't think they're widely used yet.

mobile phones were inspired by communicators and automatic doors didn't exist before star trek either.

The original Enterprise (Kirks) was able to separate its saucer section, but it was unable to reatach itself to the rest of the ship. It was only to be used in an emergency.

Or so the legends go . . .

did you know that originally Spock's human bits came from 'One of his ancestors', rather than just his mom. Also, Roddenberry once said that there would be no zips in Trek, as by then they'd have found something better, hence they didn't appear till TNG S3, when Roddenberry had given up most of the control of the franchise. He also said no ships would ever have 1 or 3+ nacels... wrong again

Actually that's officially stated in the startrek fact files as well which are licenced from paramount. smiley - erm they don't go into detail either.

Back at the time when TNG was relatively new there was a news story where a univercity student had mathmatically proven warp drive.

There's a warp calculator at http://www.ussdragonstar.com/utilitycore/warpspeeds.asp , which I think is cool. Didn't know about the whole paramount thing about the saucer, but I do know that in Star Trek First contact, that either Picard forgot how many decks he had on his ship, or the schematics were wrong, as the number of decks changed mid-film.
Also, the number 47 is said or written in every single Star trek film or TV program.
As well as that, does anyone here know the odd and even rule? smiley - evilgrin

Everyone should know the odd and even rule, although, Nemesis wasn't too bad. Also they used to have GNDN on several of the pipes on TOS, which stood for goes nowhere, does nothing.

yeah the odd/even rule bout the films....doubt paramount work like that though.

i do agree there's a degree of inconsistencey6 bout the number of decks on the enterprise-e. in first contact, picard says there are 24, but think there's a mention of deck 26 in the same film (though don't quote me on that). in nemesis, the ship has at least 28 decks i think. maybe they did a lot of work after the borg assimilated a lot of it?
