If you want to know about HP Sauce I'd recomend a book called "The True Story of HP Sauce" by Dinsdale Landen and Jennifer Daniel (ISBN 0-413-56390-1) published in 1985 by Methuen London Ltd.
If you can't find it I'll be posting some of what I know about "The Sauce" but for now here's a recipe from an advert shown in Britain between the 1st and 2nd World Wars;
Baked Egg Belfort
Cut the tops off some large tomatoes and scoop out the insides.
Half fill with chopped cold meats mixed with a teaspoon of HP Sauce.
Add tiny pieces of butter or margarine.
Break an egg into each.
Stand on greased tin and bake in moderate oven.
Try it..... by the way Daddies Sauce is no match for the far superior HP Sauce. Daddies is runny, bland and contains very few of the elements that make HP so special
