If you haven't noticed there is something that is called Goth metal and if isn't melodic what is???
bands like Moonspell and Type O Negative! That is how it shall be! Heavy, melodic!

I'll be sure to go look for a guide entry on "goth" in just a minute, but is there really any unified musical genre called GOTH, or is it mainly just a style of dress?

Yep a lot of them do like wearing a dress.
Being from the 80's, I remember Goths in the UK and back then it was mostly what you wear and a little about Goth Rock (As I like to refer to it).
These days its mostly about what you wear as there is far more Metallers these days who wear Goth stuff.
