Hey, I read something a while back about a new H2G2 movie script being written by members of Monty Python and Douglas Adams - did this end when Adams passed away?

click on the thread above and it will take you to a thread about the new movie - but be warned, it may take you a while to read it all!

...and I thought *I* was rather slow (having done some checking for whether it was worth including another thread). You are not too late in the sense of the inquirer with the rather hoopy U-number having unsubscribed though.

That thread was huge... anyways, last I heard of a Hitchiker movie was around March or so, and that John Malkovitch would be involved. But nobody should get their hopes up - the idea of a Hitchhiker movie has been around almost as long as the books have, and longer than I've been alive. Even Mr. Adams was frustrated with the way Hollywood has been batting the rights around from studio to studio (and now Disney owns it... it'll get produced for sure if they pass it off to Miramax - they'll do anything), and jaded fans are definitely skeptical about whether such a movie would come to be in their lifetimes. Don't hold your breath.

I think the prospects of a movie is all very excitig. I just hope they have a good budget to work with. It seems that the cast looks like they fit the characters very well. But I have just two little issues as it were. Now I can't tell you that I'm very familiar with the actor Mos Def aside from the fact he's a Rap artist but he doesn't strike me as being very Ford Prefect-like. I feel Johnny Depp would have made a perfect Ford. But then again, Mr. Depp's schedule is slightly tied up at the moment, what with him playing Willy Wonka and all. And dare I say that a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is most likely doomed to failure, Johnny Depp in it or not. If anyone is familiar with any roles Mos Def has played and how good of an actor he is, the information would be quite helpful. My other issue is with the casting of Marvin. But I'm baffled as to why they cast Warwick Davis in the role, not that it has anything to do with his size. Now I know that they are doing alot of bluescreen with Marvin so it is conceivable that he will be digitally edited in and made to look tall. I daresay the large, white rotund head of this newly designed Marvin reminds me of a Golf Ball though. I envision some immortal, omniscient, all powerful, God-like being using his 9 iron to shoot poor Marvin clear across the universe for a hole in one inside of a Black Hole. Sorry about my lengthy first post, but I have alot to say. All in all despite my quibbles, I hope the Hitchhiker's movie is entertaining and that in true Hitchhiker's fashion it contradicts everything in the Radion Program, Book, and TV Miniseries.

Mos Def is a very good actor. He was in the Italian Job and does a great job. However, having said that, I am having a tough time seeing him as Ford.
I'm just excited there is going to be a movie. Time to break out the books again.

I was hoping that the new film was going to be full of English actors, seeing that Arthur Dent was English. I have a horrible feeling that this long awaited film is going to be messed up. I really hope I am wrong.

I did read about it being in production a month ago, untimely death of Douglas Adsams meant they needed a new writer.

The movie is coming out on May 6, 2005. It will be produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and as of 12/23/04, it is not rated. If you need to know anymore info about the dates, etc., contact me as I am very close acquaintances with the directors of this film.

Hello from Detroit. Tell us about the directors. What past projects have they done? How did they pick up the project?

I am very pleased to see a motion picture for hitchhikers, though i agree that mos def is not what i had in mind. i have always envisioned a movie (series, if you please) that was 90+% in tune with the books, as with the LOTR series. I expected a very dry, satirically funny Ford with ginger-colored hair, pale eyes and the tell tale lack of comedic humor or what have you. as for an all english cast, i would think that only dent, prosser, and the taverner at the horse & groom should have the proper accent. have they found actors for jeltz et al who can truly emulate the vast cultures envisioned by our esteemed Mr. Douglas?
All in all, i am excited and hope to see the subsequent installments of the "trilogy". and i will own the eventual box set regardless, as will most die-hard Douglas fans. And i too, am pulling out my complete set. so prepare the popcorn, and i'll meet you at the restraunt at the end of the universe!!!!

I saw the trailer for the new movie online last night and it looks pretty impressive... its got that bloke from The Office who played Tim..... Playing Arthur Dent!!! The only thing which is letting it down so far..... is that it appears to be quite americanized... but then again thats just the trailer!!!

The movie came out on 29 April, in the USA. It's now (Tues. 3May) the #1 movie in the States. It's pretty good, with only a few slight ommissions, that only a fan would catch. One being that there was no explaination of the importance of keeping your towel. And, as Hollywood has a bad habit of doing, they threw a light love story in the background, but not enough to ruin the film. The one song (played only twice -at begining and end of movie) is funny. It's about the dolphins leaving earth , "So long, and thanks for all the fish!" I've got the movie trailer downloaded, if there's a way to attach it here, let me know, and I will. It's only 4.5 MB and fun. Or leave an email address and I'll send it.
