My "under construction" Intro..
I'm Jim, temporarily living in south Florida, until my partner, Dave, finishes his work project. Then we'll have to decide whether to move back to London, where he' from, or southern California, where I'm from. Either is fine with me.
I'm also a grateful survivor of the July 1989 crash of United Airlines flight 232, at the Sioux City, Iowa Airport. I, and 184 other people survived when the DC-10 cartwheeled and exploded into 3 major pieces. Tragically, 112 did not. I was seriously injured, but have recovered with managable problems. If you've ever seen the actual video of the impact, it's a miracle that anyone lived through it. (In fact, 13 people were completely uninjured!)
My other interests are, computers, weather and it's effects on the earth and life, traveling (yeah, I still fly!)comedy of any sort, and anything to do with NASA. Except for one thing.
In the late 60's, when NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in Zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent almost a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that could write in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface, including glass, and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C. During this time the Russians used a pencil. Other than that, I think it's amazing.
When I have a bit more time, I'll try to post something of real interest. Till then, Cheers!
Jim

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
