IT would be great to have more information about this small village, if anyone knows any!

You're welcome. smiley - smiley

So what are you intending to do with this, are you merely trying to find some more information, or do you want to write a guide entry about the village?

I'd love to read about Nempnett Thrubwell in the Edited Guide smiley - smiley

Take a look at some of the other village entries to give you ideas on how much information you need and how to structure it. A couple of recent ones which I enjoyed were:

A26179239 Blewbury, Oxfordshire
A26831289 Hidden Hemel Hempstead: Boxmoor

...but there are many more in the Edited Guide.

Do you live locally? You'll get the best information in the local library.

From the Oxford Dictionary of Place Names:

<Nempnett Thrubwell B. & NE. Som. Emnet c.1200, Trubewel 1201. Originally two places. Nempnett is ‘(place at) the level ground’ from OE emnet with N- from ME atten ‘at the’. Thrubwell is from OE wella ‘spring, stream’ with an uncertain first element.>

I'm doing a lot of offline research into Somerset history for an h2g2 University of Life project that will (eventually) get uploaded.

I haven't got much info on Nempnett Thrubwell yet, only that one of the biggest burial mounds in Somerset was located there - the Fairy Toot.

Originally 60 yards by 20 yards, 15 yards high (sorry, it's an old reference source and I haven't converted the measurements), the Fairy Toot had several rows of cells with human bones and horses teeth contained in it. Apparently, very little of it remains now. I say apparently, as I haven't actually had the chance to visit Nempnett Thrubwell yet to see for myself what lies there.

Oh, and people used to get their warts cured at the Fairy Toot aswell. I may have some more information on the place as times goes on but that's all I can find at the moment. smiley - ok

Hi I like this
Nempnett Thrubwell
The Meaning of Liff a book by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd.
The book has alternative meanings to village names in the UK.
The village "NEMPNETT THRUBWELL"
"The feeling experienced when driving off for the first time on a brand new motorbike."smiley - biggrin

It's the favourite place of BBC Somerset's breakfast show presenter Adam Thomas, who I work with. I'll see if I can get him to contribute a little...

In the meantime, you might like this roadsign:

I think for your first entry it might be better to write about a place you've already been to.

Or go for a quick visit to this village. It sounds really interesting!

This may be a no go unfortunately. If twas removed back to Entry it might be a good Flea Market option.
