[Mewtwo] }FWAAHAHAHAHA! (I haven't done that in years!) Do you really think you can defeat ME? And an Umbreon is useless against psychic-types without Dark-type attacks! I can wipe him out with fighting-type attacks!{
[Vekura] {Yeah, but can you learn 'em?}
[Mewtwo] }Mew can.{

Uhh...
'Black Gaze' is a move which prevents the enemy from switching. There is another move which restores health called 'Lucky Light'. Umbreon can learn both of them, as well as Confuse Ray and the Toxic TM. I'd like to see ANY Pokémon that can stand up to a Black Gaze/Toxic/Confuse Ray/Luck Light moveset.

[Vekura] {Easy. A fast one.}
[Mewtwo] }Toxic is the only attack your Umbreon will have that actually does any damage.{
MewTWO!
Psybro Posted Sep 14, 2000
Yeah, a fast Pokémon would be able to attack first, but Umbreon's Defensive stats are killer.

[Mewtwo has thru-the-roof stats]
[Mewtwo] }Really? What's your basis for comparison?{

Psybro Posted Sep 15, 2000
D'oh!
I just found out that Mewtwo learns the TM for 'Exploding Punch', an extremely powerful Fighting move.
Oh well, Umbreon's still cool, so

[Mewtwo] }Umbreon, PaPeRDoLL, is a dark-type Pokémon which evolves from Eevee when it arrives at a "happiness quotient" during the night in Pokémon: Gold or Silver versions. Dark-type attacks are super-effective against Psychic-type Pokémon, and Psychic-type attacks don't work very well against Dark-type Pokémon.{
[Vekura] {As far as that goes, Mewtwo could dish out a bit of damage to your Umbreon, and once it's ground Mewtwo down a bit he can use Revenge to wipe it out. I know that from personal experience.}
[Mewtwo] }Incidentally, Umbreon is the only pure Dark-type.{
[Vekura] {Meaning, it's the only Dark-type Pokémon that is /only/ a Dark-type. It isn't also Poison or something.}

It should be pointed out that Psychic attacks are in fact COMPLETELY ineffective against Dark Types.
