The BBC produced "Two Of Us", a gay teen drama by Roger Tongue in 1986. Written for, and shown as part of, their standard teens' TV output. Mind you, they did wimp out and cut a couple of scenes before transmission...
More recently, the BBC also returned to the theme of sexuality in "Byker Grove", a childrens soap set in Newcastle-on-Tyne, UK,. The storyline dealt with a boy arkwardly coming out to his friend (by kissing him).
There can be very few other instances of children's TV taking on the subject of sexuality in such a positive way (if at all). Especially among such respected mainstream broadcasters.

Also, from memory, the BBC only showed it a while later late at night and not during schools hours as intended.
