A Conversation for h2g2 FAQ: Technical Questions
h2g2- finite, or otherwise ?

Maybe this is a naive question, but how does it all fit in? I mean, it's obviously pretty big, and must get hugely bigger every hour, so does old stuff drop off the other end, or does it have pretensions to infinity ?
curious

It has pretensions to infinity!
We pride ourselves on never throwing anything away, and the assumption is that storage technology will more than keep up with our requirements. Text is pretty efficient...

I though some cleanup of old threads was being made *scratches head* Don't remember where I heard it (read about it to be accurate)

Hi Dancer,
We are not sure what you mean! Can you explain a little more what you think you read and then we can try to explain it?
Thanks!

Aren't old threads removed?
I think some pre BBC talk was removed, but that is probably because it is hard to moderate it.

Hi Dancer
Old Conversations are not removed as such. They are currently hidden and waiting in line to be moderated. Each Posting is moderated in exactly the same way that new Conversations are. The Moderation Team will look to see whether they comply with the House Rules. If they don't, then the Posting will be failed. If it is passed, it reappears on site.
Thus slowly, but surely, the Conversations that took place on h2g2 before we became part of the BBC are reappearing across the site.
Hope that helps.
