Winter is here and it came with a huge snowstorm. No chance to get anywhere by car this morning, we have to wait until the streets are clear. There are at least 10cm snow already.

Not being coastal we got off fairly likely. A few wheelie bins have been scattered down the street and I've heard tales of low-flying trampolines.

Sounds like a mechanics question. A trampoline with mass 20kg travelling at 50km/h collides with a stationary Bagpuss of mass 80kg. Assuming a wholly elastic collision, determine the final velocity of Bagpuss.

Why don't you just tell us the answer Bagpuss - that is, if you're willing to stand outside in a storm waiting for a trampoline to hit you?
Just wandered astray once again in early 90ies music on youtube - I never knew Queen (after Freddie had died), Annie Lennox and David Bowie did a concert together!
I think Annie and David should do more songs together, their voices match each other very well.

I have been listening to a lot of Bowie over the last couple of days. Hunky Dory on the way to work last night and Scary Monsters on the way home this morning. I was and still am a huge fan.

I'll have a go at the calculation...
I'm thinking that momentum is conserved here, and momentum is mass times velocity. Assuming that the trampoline stops moving after colliding with bagpuss:
v (bagpuss) = 20 × 50 / 80 = 12.5km/h

That clip of Annie Lennox and David Bowie with Queen- must be from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert...
Some of the singers were ok, but they couldn't match Freddie

I completed the assignments and tests and quizzes for Managerial Finance and International Business today.
That just leaves Problems in Federal Taxation... One comprehensive tax problem for Monday and the final exam on the sixteenth. Gah!

I had just been thinking of you, Witty, and wondering whether you were through yet. Well, not long!

I'm getting a trying to follow the various edits on *refrains from sptting since it's still against the house rules* Wiki.
Anyone can edit, in any way, corret or not - it's a mess!
I am quite happy to know that edited entries on h2g2 stay the same (most of the time anyway).

Who was that man in the mask?
And I had a sort of flying dream, too. I looked up and saw a lot of jets, I mean like 16 jets, pass overhead in parallel formation then suddenly scramble and wheel like a chaotic ball of seagulls -- and then suddenly they were turned 90º and doing another parallel pass. As I was admiring this and wondering whether they would do a low flying pass, something fell out of one of the jets, and came straight at me. It was a blue and silver fountain pen, which I caught easily.
The jet was way high up when the pen ejected, but I saw it... and caught it despite its velocity. So I guess I had superpowers, too!

I often dream of flying, but it's more like a long, extended jump type thing than an ignoring gravity type thing.

Maybe a magic fountain pen or something. And you definitely had super powers too.
interestingly this was my first dream where I didn't fly like a bird, by flapping my arms (which is usually very hard work).

I've dreamed I've been flying a few times, always the same way. A bit like sailing on my wings (outstretched arms). First of all, I need to 'float' by sliding up onto an invisible 'ball' (like a Pilates ball) of air. Once I manage to convince myself that I can indeed float on the air, I can start sailing higher and higher.
Had a horrible nightmare once where I suddenly forgot how to float, and I was quite high up. Woke up *just before I hit the ground.
