*Must resist the *
Last Friday the school took my son and his class apple-picking, which he was really excited about and talked about all weekend how he had picked his own apples and went apple bobbing.
Good to know schools still do that sort of thing - I thought that apples would have been against health and safety regulations because the pips contain microscopic traces of arsenic and branches can fall off trees and impale people randomly etc...

Love the new doodle -- I scored 95 on my first try.
A dearth of actual news here. Same 4 walls. There was a residents' council meeting on Tuesday, where I led a passionate campaign for garlic. "Why use one clove where 6 will do?" I asked the new guy. Hermano, the new manager of Dietary, agreed with me. So did most of the rest of those present, who are mostly hispanic.
I'll be getting up today, but will probably spend most of my "up" time in my room. Fridays are particularly congested in the halls, for some reason, and we have two or three very peripatetic and senile fellows who are liable to stop suddenly, in their wheelchairs or walkers, and fall asleep or simply forget where they are or what they were doing. Factor in the nurses' carts, the house cleaners' carts, therapists wheeling patients to and from the gym, visitors stopping staff members in the hall to discuss their relative's case, and people like me who are just trying to get somewhere ... Pastey and Irv have been there, they've seen it first-hand.

It's as hectic, and cluttered, as a supermarket before a long holiday when the schools have suddenly closed for no reason.
*shudder*
Well, I've got just under 40 minutes of work left at this place, then I'm a workless man for the next three months to try and get people to buy my book, write my next book, and get as much of h2g2 rebuilt as I possibly can. I'm incredibly bored.

Hi Sasha! Welcome and please make yourself at home.
*looks up* was that a meteorite? Or Pastey haring off from what used to be his place of work?

I just discovered I need to rectify (or would 'correct' be more exact?) myself about not keeping books I don't want to re-read.
Howard Buten's 'When I was five I killed myself' (translated into Swedish).
I really don't want to re-read it, but when I read it the first time, it was a sort of eye-opener for me.
So it's staying in my book case, even though it's seriously over-crowded.

I'm enjoying my work.
I'm scrutinising specifications, and writing test against these specs. And I find problems in the system, and in the specs, and I just report them to the responsible person, and he usually agrees with me and fixes them.
After several months of no assignments, this job is just so much fun and stimulation, that I'm just ridiculously happy about it.
It's even totally OK to do the long days (I haven't worked full time in years) and the commuting (about 30 to 45 minutes, the longer only because I don't check the timetables but just go out and see what shows up.)
Life is pretty darn good.

Thank you Lil
Hi Milla
"After several months of no assignments, this job is just so much fun and stimulation, that I'm just ridiculously happy about it."
Although sometimes my job is not so good, sometimes my job is like that (and today was one of those times) so I am pretty lucky indeed, and I know how you feel!

Me too, about programming. In the past couple of days I made major strides with a little puzzle, complete with fist-pumping moments as long-desired behaviours finally, well, behaved. This evening I tweaked the logic a little bit and broke the puzzle completely, so I know I'm on the right track.

BB - Believe it or not, health & safety regs are usually pretty sensible. The idiocies generally come from people who are scared of what they think the rules say or from insurance companies refusing to cover things.
Or from journalists who don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

So, will the tea party minority caucus of the minority party in Congress succeed in their attempt at a policy coup d'etat?
I wish US citizens generally realized how ex[pensive a government shutdown really is.

And what I have been wondering lately is, have there always been politicians as stupid as the tea party, or was I raised during a golden age of acumen and responsibility?
Something else I wonder: if I started a new thread, would anybody show up? *dead cat bounce flounce*
