*takes notes*
A friend and I rented a flat once without first realising that one of the bedrooms had no lights. I think it's just one of those things you assume will be there, until the first night we moved in and we were all as there was no light switch, and no light!

That would definitely throw me for a loop Mini.

First extremely foggy day of the year - so thick that I couldn't see more than 8 feet in front of me, and by the time I'd travelled those 8 feet my glasses were so soaked that I couldn't see anything anyway. I suppose its practice for when the clocks go back and everything is dark.
There aren't any roadworks anywhere I go by at the moment, so they must be planning to start digging up the road as soon as it gets dark to catch us all by surprise....

Here it's very foggy today, too. No idea if the sun still exists anywhere up there behind this gray wall.
Yesterday it was already a bit foggy and quite wet.

It's nearing the time when an author is to be awarded the Nobel literature prize. A Swedish newspaper has listed 10 authors with the highest bets. Have you read any books by any of these? I've read two.
Haruki Murakami
Joyce Carol Oates
Peter Nadas
Jon Fosse
Ko Un
Assia Djebar
Thomas Pynchon
Alice Munro
Adonis
Philip Roth

None, Ti. I haven't even heard of most of the authors. And I'm pretty sure Adonis lived in ancient Greece - don't the books have to be recent?

I was a bit surprised myself, Bagpuss - had to google Adonis to find out it's a pseudonym for a Syrian poet, essayist, and translator. And no, I haven't read anything written by him.

Just back from Scotland. Rain, fish, beer, good company and epic scenery.

I haven't read any of the new books, and have only heard of three of the authors. Currently I'm reading a book called Lempriere's Dictionary. I almost put it down ten pages into the prologue because the prose was so florid. But the author settled down and behaved himself and now I'm finding the tale quite gripping.
It's after lunch and we're all still sort of amazed at what I witnessed -- one of the residents wheeled up to the food tray cart, ferkled around and took someone's dessert, then skinned out of there (in her wheelchair). A quick check of the cart revealed a tray missing a piece of cake, but the woman (once they caught up with her) refused to hand over the stolen goods. This resulted in a trek down to the kitchen to replace the dessert and a sigh of resignation from the aides. Something else they have to watch out for in future.

Sorry, haven't figured out how to manipulate URLs in Pliny yet...

Keep an eye out for Swedish author Fredrik Backman, his first book (A man named Ove) is being trnaslated to a number of languages and there'll evwen be a film.
I'm currently re-reading his book 'My grandmother sends her greetings and says she's sorry' (or whatever the English title might be). I think this is the first time I've started re-reading a book just a few days after finishing it.

Elin Jonsson (Sweden) has attracted unexpected fame by uploading fan art pictures on her FB page of characters from The Game of Thrones done in Art Nouveau style inspired by Mucha:

Lil, I think I would have to come up with a dastardly plan to trick the 'perp' and teach them a lesson. Cake thieving is a grave offence in my book...Mmm

Hello Sasha
Phew - saw Lil's speculating about a new thread (I'm all in!) and realised there were three LEDs to go before I saw whether I'd be hopelessly late. The suspense...!
Good to hear happiness about job and accomplishments, to hear about the crowding, Lil.
Got my own inner programmer out for a wee bit in the light recently - did a 6 month calendar for the Scouting planning - put in the start date (first of any month) and it populates with dates, weekdays, Sat/Sundays with a shade background, and correct number of days per month, all in 6 nice columns (well, 12 - one for date/weekday and a wider one next to that for the day note). Actually, hmmm, that is all done in formulas and formatting, come to think of it - but there's a programmed routine to blank everything before doing a new half-year plan and another to ... something I can't recall

Sometimes trying to make something work in javascript/CSS3/HTML5 is like playing with a cat where the cat is under a blanket and the cat loves to play and goes all in and sometimes you lose track of what part of the cat you've stuck your hand against and suddenly the claws come though the blanket...
I've taken a few days off to nurse the scratches. Doing happy things with Bryce instead.
This thread is 13 months old. I'll not be doing an exhaustive scribing job because it would make things top-heavy... and it was a different world for me, 13 months ago.

Quiz time! This purports to be a personality test, of a Tibetan Buddhist flavor. It took me by surprise a couple of times.

That was a bit... odd. There was only one thing I felt hit the spot, the one about twin soul.
Chilly but wonderfully sunny weekend, with beautiful colours - I'm off outdoors
