Yar,
eats, and any other military history aficionados, I found my dad's mission logs. so I scanned the 13th, the one where the plane got badly shot up. Then I have some questions about the information on the page.

Where I work in Southampton Solent University have decided to merge the School of Visual & Interactive Arts ('Visinter' for short) with the School of Design ('Design') for short. The new school name is to be the Southampton Solent School of Art & Design, or SoSoSAD for short. Who comes up with these, eh?

We have blue skies here. It's quite nice actually.

Re Mission 13:
1. What is form 1 time?
2. Mission time: 8250. Is that minutes? I mean, is it how long the mission lasted?
3. What's a PFF ship?
The house is going to be completely re-weatherstripped over the next few days, and I'm going to purchase a couple of oil-filled radiators to try and reduce the consumption of LP gas, the price of which is soaring. Thanks to some wind farms in Texas and Arizona, the price of electricity is much more reasonable.

Sorry to say, Lil, I can't help you much. The reference to a PFF ship almost certainly pertains to a probably incendiary marker left for the purpose by the Path Finder Force. I don't understand why it's referred to as a 'ship'.
I couldn't help but notice the 20 nautical mile error in the total of 741 – should be 761.

Lil, it's nice that something is less expensive. Around here it isn't the electricity. I've had a level pay plan for my utilities for several years. The electricity just jumped by $50 a month and the natural gas by $20 a month. This was the month after my mortgage payments went up $160 a month thanks to needing more for taxes and insurance. I'm clearly going to have to economize someplace. Make the dogs get a job or something.
And the electric bills at the library are absolutely out of site recently.

1. What is form 1 time? A. I suspect that this is when the aircraft should all be in formation to head away from the base.
2. Mission time: 8250. Is that minutes? I mean, is it how long the mission lasted? A. This looks like cumulative sortie times. Total number of minutes flown over 13 missions.
3. What's a PFF ship? A. The PFF ship was an aircraft from the Pathfinder Force. The better qualified/experienced navigator/pilot combinations that made sure the formation bombed the correct location. The aircraft had better navigation equipment, DF sets to crossfix onto the target and latterly radar too. If the force couldn't see the target because of total cloud cover they would bomb on the PFF ship's mark.

Hallo Man! I believe this is the first time you've joined our conversation. Welcome.
I went back and checked the mission times, and you're right, eats -- he was marking cumulative time. And there were at least half a dozen missions, including D-Day, when he just wrote "dropped on PFF" or "PFF mission". Once he noted that they were off-target because the lead bombardier held off bombs away to avoid hitting another squadron.
But he soon gave up listing the mileage.
Real bombs, real people in those tinfoil planes, real people on the ground. Well, at least there's no mission to Dresden in these logs.
