A big cull today. Not a day for smiles. Loads of good colleagues dropped after over 20 years of service for most.
I have no idea as yet where I will end up. Lincolnshire or London, or even the US on exchange.
I was ready for redundancy and to be kept on when guys every bit as good as me were pushed out was surprising.

Hope that you can come to terms with that quickly eats, is almost as stressful as being cut.
In other news, I jumped in a lake today, fully-clothed. I rescued a small child who fell in, not one of mine though. Then had a very soggy 8 mile bike ide home. Shattered now.

Actually exactly what I thought.
In computer related news, we got an iMac into the house. Yes, expensive - but then it helps that it's 40-45% tax & company financed and the rest over 24 months (not my choice but mandatory under that scheme).
I had expected quite some things to be easier than on Windows machines - have been practicing with C on her recent study Macbook. But that getting my wife up and running on her work's Outlook and stuff via Citrix was done in 10 minutes flat, including finding the needed server address and getting her login credentials from her basically flabbergasted me.
Doing the same thing on Win7 earlier this year took half an evening. OK, I didn't have access to all the stuff Citrix offered for the rescue, but still-
Methinks this is good. And flabbergasted is such a brilliant word - came up in a conversation with a British colleague today and I've had this urge to use it for the rest of the day

Overcast and drizzly.
Seldom does one's flabber get gasted these days.
Well done to our local hero Kelli, takes some courage to do that sort of thing, well done indeed.

Gaming weekend plans
Hosting guild quiz Saturday
Sunday story time
I hope the quiz will become as popular as the story telling time - we usually try to find a secluded spot ingame (Rift) and those that have the ability will keep a camp fire going, with our characters seated in a ring around it, except for the character telling the story who stands up using /say to tell the story.
We've been taking turns, and I've been trying to educate my guildies in Norse folk tales. The one about why the sea is salt was appreciated all around.
Aesop's fables are quite common, whether the player is British, Scandinavian, German, Dutch or Greek (those are the nationalities I know to be represented in our guild).
It was the guild name that attracted me in the first place - Knights of Nerdvana

In 1982 Arthur C Clarke predicted that a diamond planet would be discovered in 2010, so he was only 1 year out.

It's quite amazing how many of the things that Clarke and Asimow described that have turned out to become reality.

They were all playing nearby and he decided to try and use a stick to stir the water, despite being told to stay away from the edge. He lost his footing and went in headfirst. If it had been t'Boy I'd have been a little bit confident that he could swim himself back to the edge but this lad didn't even try, just sank. Perhaps he was too shocked to get his arms and legs moving.
Not heroic, just a normal mum, reacting in a normal mum way. Very little thought involved.
Been swimming in a proper pool this morning - t'Other can swim! Without floatation aids or anything! Was amazing to see He has been getting closer for weeks but this was just amazing - I was letting all the kids swim under my legs and he just joined in with that too. So proud of him.

That's wonderful that he can swim. Both my sons learned swimming at a very young age - it takes off a lot of stress off mums if the children know how to swim.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Sep 2, 2011
Well. That was an exciting trip into town.
Almost got run over by someone driving on the WRONG side of a dead end road that leads to the loading bay for some shops... I'd only stepped into the road because even I think it's churlish to expect a group of old ladies to move out of my way so I can stay on the pavement. Driver didn't even slow down or look in my direction. Completely oblivious.

Mr. D, that must have been an American.
Kelli, well done with the rescue! I hope the boy's mother was properly appreciative.
Nights are getting cooler; it's a delicious 72ºF in here and my computers were running all night.
