smiley - stiffdrink for Gwen and Sol, hope the backup comes good Gwe7n. I agree with Agapanthus Sol, the schools must be mad. So is it the case that the govt is trying to encourage people with other experience into teaching while the schools themselves aren't interested? Keep plugging away...

There is a good proportion of 'don't know' in my ethnic mix - some of my female ancestors led colourful lives.

As you may have surmised, I'm 100% Scottish - but that's made up of various bits of Pict, Norman and Scandinavian.

IIEM - a large mug of coffee with a couple of drops of Sisu, please.

I haven't done my French homework. Again. And class starts in thirty minutes, most of which will be used up by getting myself dressed and walking there. Oops.

A bientot, mes amies smiley - run

I am who I am...

No not quite right.

I am what I am.
I my own special creation!

But really there is some Irish in the mix (was it my grandparents grandparents or one generation either side that came over the water to england). Somewhere back there is probably someone who moved down from Scotland as well. Mostly it seems I'm from not too far from where I am now. Which over the years has meant my mother has had to go to record offices all over looking for information. It's all near the historic borders of Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

I think I've got some Welsh and some Irish, going back to grandparents, but I suspect like most Scousers I'm a Heinz 57.

Three sixteenths Welsh, one sixteenth Italian (who was a slate miner in Wales) and as far as I know the rest is from various parts of England. I know my great grandmother was a scullery maid and caused something of a scandal by marrying beneath her station.

Tea, please, IIEM - strong.

I think that a large smiley - coffee with just a wee bit of sisu in it sounds good. IIEM, please?

I was all prepared for a map show-off ( http://encarta.msn.com/map_701516395/schleswig-holstein.html ) when I discovered that Ti had already done the geography bit. I know I should counter that history lesson before the Swedes start making claims for the area - after all, it did take us a while and some serious warfare plus more than a little help from major parts of Europe to some of it wrestled out of the hands of Germany smiley - tongueout

I know that my Aunt once tracked the family way back but as far as I know (never saw the work, actually) I'm quite boringly Danish. Could have been German, though - my Dad's parents planned on settling in Hamburg and only due to WWI ended up doing so in Copenhagen instead.

As far as ancestry goes, I'm 1/16 Ulster Protestant (except it was all Ireland back then), the rest is English, from London/Essex way, though my maiden surname crops up all over the place (but then, owning a field was rather notable way back when.). On my Dad's side, one of my Great-Grandmothers was a Champ, which suggests a possible streak of Hugenot somewhere in me.

Welsh, Irish - who may or may not have come from Shropshire originally, but who certainly ended up in Liverpool - (northern) English and French Hugenout via the Channel Islands here. Not Scottish. Not even a little bit.

I've just been offered a call centre job, starting Monday, for 6 months or so. I'm going to take it as having money is a *good thing*, even if I'm not a great fan of working on phones.

Titania (gone for lunch)

Wohoo - today Sweden takes yet a step closer to getting rid of small change that isn't worth anything any more (i.e. there is nothing so cheap you can buy it for one of these coins). The 50 öre coin is to be no more (worth around 6 US cents or 4 UK pence).

Now, if the UK could only do the same thing - trying to keep track of all the small change I get each and every time I visit London drives me absolutely nuts!

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

A call center job is better than nothing.

I think I am going to go see my smiley - doctor today, sinuses aren't getting any better.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Any job at all in the current environment is better than nothing, Rosemary, and it's a bit easier to find and be offerred one while currently employed. smiley - goodluck with it.

Given my unmarried surname I guess there must be some Irish in me somewhere, although most previous generations were English (and my Dad always insisted there was nobody in the family who were Irish smiley - erm)

Pokes head out from behind plant, zing, zing as Sisu grounds are ejected from the back of the IIEM at super sonic velocity.

You're right, good job I kept the tin hat on, Duck.
