Tom has (or had as of last week, when he told me to go ahead and raid his wallet) a new-looking $2 bill. Now, whether it's actually new, or just looks nice and crisp because the thing just didn't get circulated, I have no idea...

I live just outside London (Kent), but have family in America-my uncle gave me a $2 bill ( i collected coins-or did-still have them )-after a few years as poker money ( kids style, not seriuos )i cashed all my dollar bills in, i should have kept the £2-he said it was a rarity

You can--it's just a pain for the cashier, though, because there's never been a slot in cash registers for it (which is why, I think, they never did circulate much) Of course, if you have a younger cashier, s/he may not think it's real money...

I have 2 or 3 $2 bills in the house, too.
And it was 240 pence to the pound, 12 pence in a shilling, 20 shillings in a pound and 21 shillings in a guinea. Amazing to think that several generations have grown up since England's currency went metric. I was a cashier at Tesco's before and during the conversion. The stores were full of panicking OAPs trying to figure out how much that pound of brussels sprouts had really just cost them.
MR, you're as bad as I am about getting those MRI's scheduled. Let us know what they find!

WanderingAlbatross - Wing-tipping down the rollers of life's ocean. Posted May 7, 2009
We don't actually print our own notes over here in the IOM, we contract it out to people like Pobjoys. But we used to have plastic notes, yonks ago. We still would but the firm that made the material went bust. I've still got one in my wallet; they're very tough, impossible to tear.

Yes, I remember thinking they were good, although the clear sections were a bit weird. I wonder how long it'll be before we adopt them here in the UK.

What clear sections? I've got one in front of me and can't see through any of it.

I can drive to Leeds if it makes it all easier with lifts etc?
I fancy the Thackery Museum.
Today I looked down and noticed my stomach was flatter than it used to be .

Help. The new meds i am on are making me constantly hungry, I have eaten so much food today it is unreal. I had two sandwiches and a smoothie before lunchtime and had two packets of crisps and some granola bar thingys on my way back from town. Its only four in the afternoon, and the best part is that i still feel hungry!

Catching up with backlog after not readng most of Yesterdays postings due to being at work and then out on the town with Phil.
Glad to see everyone enjoyed the London Zoo meet and hope you all enjoy the Leeds meet, I did consider popping over myself after work, but I have a meeting to attend in Aylsbury tomorrow night on my way back from Manchester to London.
Assuming no last minute crisis, I am planning on getting to Kew.
Key: Complain about this post
