A Conversation for LIL'S ATELIER

Kat, try Dove chocolate. It has a much creamier texture than Hershey's.

Marv, you said, "I miss the blurring of the line between the EG entries and the conversations that spawn from them."

I've seen both the italics and the peer review folks complain about the lack of conversations being started on EG entries. I am sure they have statistics showing how many times EG entries are loaded and I wonder if these entries are being read and not commented on or just not read at all.

And welcome back to the salon, SpaceCadette. smiley - ok

Sporky.

I'm not sure about your analogy about emotions in the town hall. I do put in work for the Guide (I'd say bettween about five hours a week) because it's a valuable project, because I like the direction the EG is going in and because I believe it's got a future.

If people say 'it's rubbish' I hear 'you're wasting your time'.

This may well because I'm oversensitive, it may be illogical, but I do need to deal with some heavy emotions when I discuss the EG. For that reason I stay away 'where is EG going' threads. I have a tendancy to feel the same way about the NHS, I feel like I'm giving up my life to work for this organisation so when people say 'the NHS is cr*p' then it offends me. Oh and I get strangely emotional when people discuss welfare benifits.

So I'm oversensitive - that's my business, none of yours - I don't have any right to ask you not to talk about a particular topic that I'm illogically oversenitive about.

I'm really near my emotional limit recently due to the impending finals and some finanical problems, so I can't deal with discussing topics that I'm over emotional about.

So again - my problem. I want people to discuss difficult topics but at the moment I'm avoiding threads when they do.

I really don't want to avoid the Atelier Conversation. All my real life friends are stressing about finals as well so I do need your sanitiy.

Sorry.

But I also know that Lil doesn't want to make this into a nice fluffy place where people can't discuss difficult things.

Er, yes. Don't know what to suggest really.

I know. I'll just ignore the conversation that I find difficult and respond to Kat's post on Hersey making Cadburys.

Commenting on EG entries assumes going to the front page and being curious enough about the blurb to click on the link. Perhaps less desultory blurbs would help.

I haven't had Cadbury's chocolate in a while, but I always liked it. The Caramello one was good as was the fruit and nut. I wonder how long Hershey has owned them? I think regular Hershey bars are pretty dreadful. I suppose it's what you get used to.

And when you do an advanced search you can put in to only search EG entries. So, I'm not understanding the problem I guess.

I can understand people having different interests and passions and subjects that hit their emotional buttons, Z, but how can you compare a website with the NHS or welfare benefits?

Regarding chocolate, like many things American, chocolate has no real standards other than the usual FDA forcible pasturising which makes for some lousy food at times. Good Belgian or Swiss chocolate is a great thing (for chocolate which I am not that fond of regardless of it's quality).

Regarding the EG/Community rigamorole, I've given up on it. I am not involved in the community outside of the salon, and I don't write EG articles any more. If I feel a real need I will go explore other areas, but I am more than happy to stay here.

It's not a website.

Well it is a website. But it's also an organisation that I spend five hours a week sometimes more, doing volentry work for.

Ok I'm also illogical.

Sorry.

Kat- Dove chocolate is really much better than Hersheys, and it's not that hard to find. If you're at a complete loss, I'm sure there's a regional candymaker where you are, and they tend to have higher-quality stuff. smiley - smiley

I'm kind of into everything here- I like the Atelier for serious(ish) discussions, I RP, I write for the EG, I just applied to be a sub-ed (hopefully Microsoft Word will help me compensate for the non-British English). I do agree that some of the entries may be a bit drier than what would be in the "real" guide, but is it really that bad? I mean, it's great that the late-night waitress in the Nowhere-In-Particular pub responds better to flirtation than to tips, but what if she changes shifts? Maybe there should be an easier process to update entries.

In any case- I would be very disappointed if any of the aforementioned aspects of hootoo were to suddenly disappear. I'll take it all, good and bad!

smiley - sigh Well, I spoke to the BF today, actually he suggested we talk just before I was going to, smiley - biggrin so I've got quite a lot off my chest, but also learnt something new, and we're now going out but not-I'm not sure cus we're behaving as normal-friends but I'm not going to try and be a girlfriend. (If that makes any sense.) smiley - hug It wasn't as bad as I'd feared, and I now feel calmer. Interestingly, he has a better opinion of my ability to cope than I sometimes do, as we talked a bit about that.
I went to a Taize service tonight, and talked to parents, having had a phone call reminding me that I hadn't phoned home recently. smiley - blushsmiley - silly

I think that's true for a lot of people, Rosemary. They can cope with heartbreak much better than they *think* they can. Me included.

Wow, what a can of worms I've opened up! Geez. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to cause anyone any distress!

Kat, Dove is good. If you can find a Trader Joe's, they tend to have an excellent chocolate selection, as do, oddly enough, health food stores.

David, research librarians are my personal heroes along with the department office staff. I simply love those people who know where the paperwork is and what form I need to fill out and who to call about X...couldn't get through a day without them.
