It snowed yesterday in Cookham, although it was too wet to settle. The poor little pups looked horrified at the suggestion of going outside when we put their collars on

>> (evil wrapped in a cute exterior)...
Which is what I like about cats of course. They appeal to the subversive in me.
Sol - your National Gallery tour reminded me of Joyce Grenfell for some reason. Priceless. Of course, it also appealed to the subversive in me!
>> whatever the snow equivalent of drizzle is. Snizzle, possibly
What a perfect word, Ag.
It's been busy. I stopped over in Brum on the way south on Friday and had a lovely meal with A and Z who kicked me out at 7.00am so that he could go flying. Then went shopping with Carole and bought some flash material for the Do I am going to, (I said that already, didn't I?) Then spent Saturday night online, which is a rare treat these days, and then had to do Taxy Things, (I mentioned, didn't I?) and then took the Taxy Things to the accountant, where it had been snowing.
So Sunday, I go off up to Brum again to see Z again and one of the young amazons he studies with, (a lovely girl), and the plan is that we spend the day watching a movie, and I go off up to Halifax in the evening. Except that by 12.30 am it is obvious that I am *not* going to go up to Halifax that evening, there being nothing left of that evening to go up in.
4.45am is not a good time for an alarm to go off...
I got 10 hours sleep last night and I am still a bit groggy.
>> I assure you that I was freezing much more in Brighton's -2ºC (28ºF) than in my hometown's -20ºC (-4ºF).
Yep - give me a Swedish Winter over an English one, (or even a Scottish one), any day...

I had a who used to retrieve too, little balls of silver foil where her favourite retrieval items. If only Cassie would do the same, keeping her entertained would ne so much easier.

Santra, my Dad's dog is indeed monstrously large. Not fat, just huge. His sire was a show champion, but I had understood that the 'preferred' size for such a dog was... not quite so big. Nevertheless, the sire's owner keeps pestering my Dad to show the dog. Dad not remotely interested. The dog tornado is very gentle, goodtempered and friendly, and has been known to 'retrieve' mice and let them go again unhurt (if a little soggy and panicky). However, he IS 55 kilos of solid muscle and knocks small children over by licking them, and clears coffee tables with his happy tail. In fact, standing near his rear when he's happy is like being beaten accross the thighs with a cricket bat. I am SO glad that Dad trained him not to jump up. Can you imagine being jumped up at by that? You'd go over like a nine-pin.

I would paint a deaf songbird through juxtaposition. Paint several birds all singing, but one bird who is obviously not singing. Or the one bird is as joyously singing as all the rest, but the birds nearest to him are giving him odd looks. Which is how people look at me when I sing (or paint).

"You'd go over like a nine-pin." Indeed...
In fact, combined with the speed of a flat, less kgs can do that trick. I have once been nine-pinned thoroughly by Castor - he came running out from some shrubbery (which btw is a good word ) and just clean took my legs away from under me. Thud! Very cartoon-like
For different reasons, I have recently been looking into the flatocoat standard. I have to say that 55 kg is a wee bit "out of spec" The standard goes "Preferred weight in hard condition: dogs: 27-36 kgs (60-80 lbs)." That's a good expression, isn't it? "In hard condition"...
On the other hand, it does indeed seem that your Dad's dog very well within the standard on characteristics: "...optimism and friendliness demonstrated by enthusiastic tail action."

B, it's odd that you should mention Joyce Grenfell. There's a show about her coming up on Feb. 12 at the Square Chapel Centre for the Arts in Halifax, in which some of Ms Grenfell's finest songs and sketches are going to be re-enacted. Details are here: http://www.sq-chapel-arts.demon.co.uk/event218.htm . I was thinking of going, so if you'd like to join me, let me know.

This morning I have to run the errands I was supposed to do yesterday morning but couldn't because ....well.....it just didn't work out.
So, I'll buy a refrigerator for the staff lounge; an ice maker for the conference room; a gazillion trash cans; a blotter for my shiny new desk; and then will go to Toys R Us to check out their dinosaurs.
Then I have to go to the dentist at 1:00 for a routine cleaning. After which, I may actually make it into the library.

Did you discover the hole when out walking on wet surfaces?
Have just got back from the gym, for the first time since christmas I managed to run for the full three miles, in 30 minutes. I feel smug but knackered.
I also forgot to bring my and some clean pants so am now sitting at my desk looking slightly soggy and feeling a bit exposed in the nether regions.
It is snizzling here in Reading ATM. Good word BTW. A weatherman tried to invent a word for misty-with-drizzle (mizzle) recently - said it every forecast for a few days but seems to have given up on it now. Perhaps I should write and inform him of snizzle?

*oh look, first appearance, just at click-over time*
Mizzle is a word that has existed for quite some time, certainly in the East Midlands. Perhaps your weather forecaster has recently joined from my neck of the woods, and has been told off by his boss for using regional dialects?

I want a cat, but A wants a dog, we're busy planning the house we'll get when I'm a doctor and he's a post grad student. So far we've decided that the priorities are a dishwasher and a few pets. Oh and we may be very lazy and pay for a cleaner.
B - er sorry *offers some high caffine * And I'm afraid the girl concerned is the only Amazon I study with all the others are regular issue girls.
I have to admit that I think the reason I am one of the few Brits I know who actually likes living here and doesn't want to emigrate, is that I actually like the weather. Apart from a few days in the summer when it gets intolerably hot. And yes I am intending to move to Scotland at some stage in my life.
I had a rather enjoyable miserable day yesterday, but that was because I spent half of it in a pub celebrating my friends birthday.
I've had a productive morning where I've got all the information I need to write a leaflet on planned home births and how to have them safely in Walsall.
