Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Aug 8, 2004
The monsters are 6 and 7. Grounding happens after other forms of punishment, such as time out, have proved ineffective or are not appropriate, generally not listening or hitting someone else.

*Note to self. Must get back to posting 993*
Another day with sunshine up to 30 C. And my youngest (son of 15)is today going off to a type of boarding school, very popular among the Danish youths, for a year. It specialises in music, drama, art and media.
Yesterday I went to the scouts' yearly fleamarket and aquired a bycicle for the youngest, a carseat for the grandchildren and 50+ books for around 40 £

Morning everyone.
I am taking the Stepson to a castle in Wales. Doesn't really matter which one, there are so many, and they are all pretty cool.
Thought we'd go to Shrek in the evening, but if we don't make it back in time for the early evening showings we'll skip. I dont want to be late at the movies.

Castel Coch, actually a Victorian reconstruction is one I never got around to visiting, even though we drove past it to get to Pontypridd when No1 son was at Uni.
Chepstow is a pretty generic castle, nicely ruined with shed loads of history and I seem to remember we found a reasonably good pub nearby.
Scorchio again today, with the possiblity of storms later, much later I hope as Dad is coming to lunch. He doesn't like driving in severe weather, at almost 83. We are bbqing, but I expect the wasps will force indoors, but I shall citronella oil in the aromatherapy thingies first.

Oh, I forgot to report on the date, didn't I?
A nice bloke, and a great museum!
I didn't realise what a gem our local museum actually is. It has a lot of furniture in it, cabinet making and stuff, that you can open the doors of and so on. Not actually an 'interactive' museum, but definitely a touchy-feely one.
Back to the bloke, he did seem nice, and we will inevitably be seeing each other again, because he is doing the musical interlude at the next Live Poets' Society gig I am performing at.
My guess is that we will end up fairly good mates, but I wouldn't lay bets on it being more than that.
Hard work, this dating stuff.

I love museums. I don't think I could date someone who DIDN'T like museums.
The fiance and I are spending the weekend doing absolutely nada zip diddly squat. It's blazing hot outside and we lily-skinned freckly objects are cowering behind the blinds, having cool showers, drinking iced tea and gearing up to watch the Star Trek movie later. My Dad occasionally phones us up and nags about not going out and 'enjoying' the sunshine. I admire his crocodile handbaggery skin and then admire the fact I look nearly ten years younger than I am and scuttle back indoors before a UVB ray gets me.
To return briefly to dentistry, I had a nasty time with orthodontists as a teenager and out of sheer cussedness refused to get my teeth looked at for ten years. I brushed and flossed religiously, however. I recently noticed my teeth were beginning to meander off in strange directions and eventually made myself go back to a dentist. Yes I do need more orthodontic treatment but get this - I have NO gum disease, no tartar buildup and no decay at all. I wouldn't recommend avoiding dentists - I am simply blessed with tough little teeth but it's not fair to take them for granted. My message to Hootooers of the world is Brush! Twice a day! AND floss! Twice a day! No skimping and remember to take two minutes over it and do the back teeth as thoroughly as the ones people can see (my cousin lost two molars to his stupid habit of only brushing the teeth he smiled with. It took a girl he fancied refusing to kiss him because his breath was horrid to make him go to dentist, who couldn't save the teeth and spent the whole three visits exclaiming 'Why aren't you in absolute agony? These must have been excrutiating! What's wrong with you?')
I do ramble on. Sorry.

Ah, Agaphanthus, you do make me feel better! I was feeling all wimpy for not getting out and about in this weather.
Now I can view it as a self-nurturing and health-focussed decision!
Actually, I need to go buy some food and smokes, and I will be taking the Stepson out later, all of which rather spoils the effect.

I am trying to do whatever I do during the night hours and sleep at the daytime. It's not too easy with the kids and puppy in the house though. But I had some success last night. I went to sleep only 6 am.

I've got a nasty hangover. Still that was a fun night..
It was meant to rain today but it isn't
I may go and hide in the university's air conditioned computer cluster.

The rain is forecast for later. So far today I've managed cutting the grass on one of the lawns (ooh that sounds posh doesn't it, lawns! - I mean they're only a few square metres each). Still may get some more kite flying in later. The weather feels much better than yesterday.

I'm making do with electric fans. The citronella kept most of the wasps away whilst we had our lunch outside.
Dad and H are watching the World Rally Championships on tv, No1 son is packing for his week in Newquay and I'm meant to be loading the dishwasher.

If I had an electric fan I'd still be at home, instead I'm at university..

Took the stepson to Raglan, which was and got snapped by a speed camera doing 43 in a 40 zone which is not .
Oh, and Amy, one of your relatives is on my table. Do you have any messages?

Just in from watching the Pageant parade through town -- it was very good this year because they got heavy with the blokes who were drinking and riding, promising to treat them as DUI cases if caught. So the traditional San Patricio ride, which comes over the south hills to the east end of town, was noticeably smaller but the participants' horses were of better quality and condition. Previously, the good ol buttcrack boys were pulling unfit animals out of the pasture, loading the saddlebags with beer cans, and whipping their horses up steep and treacherous trails then showing off during the parade, herking and jerking the horses' mouth.
In fact, I've seen some very nice horseflesh today, even though my British riding instructors would have been aghast at the casual behaviour of horses and people around each other. The Border Patrol were the only group that would have passed muster with my Head Girl.

Phew, it's hot. Any chance of an iced mineral water, Matina? Thanks!
I've just had an exhausting but very entertaining afternoon with three of my theatrical friends, helping to clean up and organise our theatre's wardrobe. That might not sound like much, but a theatre wardrobe isn't just a piece of furniture - it's the room where all the old costumes and props are stored. Ours hadn't been sorted out in years, so it was a big job.
Great fun, though. I amused myself by wearing different pieces of headgear from the wardrobe as we worked. I'm not sure which one suited me best: the yellow construction worker's one, the English country gentleman's floppy tweed number, the pink sparkly Stetson or the pantomime cow's head.
