We need to do more than hope. We need to tell folks that Bush's reelection campaign manager is a former lobbyist for Enron. That ought to make them think...

One would like hope it would give people pause. MR, I think either you or I should call in if we ever see Racicot blathering away on CNN's Larry King Live or something and inform the viewers what sort of politician he was/is.

So the GOP hadn't the sense to buy up all the domain names with dubya's name on it! And them with a gazillion dollars in their war chest, too.

Yeah but with that Enron guy in charge, who know the actual figure?

Damnit, damnit, damnit! Nader is running again.

Just read that. Kerry however is dismissing the threat saying he covers most of what Nader stands for.

I do not think though you can castigate people whom wish to follow their conscience. From my reading of recent US politics I doubt that a Democrat president will be hugely better for the environment; sure not as bad as Bush by a long shot. till predominantly in the hand of big business though.
If people choose to vote Nader because they believe in him... good on them. Not what I would do; too much of a tactical voter myself but I think if people vote with sincerity and conscience it is good.

Only in an ideal world, ferretbadger, only in an ideal world, where there's a place for Jimmy Stewart in Washington.
If Nader runs, what actually happens is that the GOP, who are probably dancing in their offices as I write, now have a great big lever with which to split the Democratic vote. In the last election, they actually ran pro-Nader ads in certain states simply in order to weaken Democratic returns.
Conscience! Might as well call in the tooth fairy.
Or do you think there are many Republicans who are likely to switch their votes to Nader?
To have a realistic chance of winning, Nader should have launched his campaign months ago.
A Democratic president will have his hands full just trying to stop the anti-environmental legislation put through by the current administration, never mind trying to advance green laws through a Reuplican congress. As regarding the hands of big business, see my previous post on the matter of fifty-cent devils.

I caught something yesterday about Nader running was hopping it wasn't true. I don't see how he thinks he could possibly win.

Nor do I but I'm a Liberal Democrat so I have to accept his democratic right to stand.

It just means Kerry has to be on message. Put himself across as the only alternative to uproot the Shrub and point to the fact that Nader had opened the door to fours years of disaterousous consequencialties from a Presidentiente with vocabularicarity iregularisms.

I do not think we live in an ideal world; and as I said nor would I choose to vote Nader were I over the pond. However I cannot condem people for voting for what they believe in rather than something they dont.
I also reckon that if you look at the Record of the Clinton administration it shows that when in power the democrats don't really do a great deal of liberal lefty stuff. More of the same but from a nicer face and with nicer words. I think there is a good chapter about that in "Stupid White Men".
My personal way of voting is I like to try and avoid the worst case scenario; for me in GB that is the Tories getting in and I will vote however I think I can best achive that. But people who vote for what they belive in from this researcher. Courage/convictions and all that.

by Achieve that... I mean making sure the Tories DONT get in. Just in case there is any confusion there folks.

"When in power, the Democrats don't do a lot of liberal lefty stuff..."
In the British System, if you have a Labour PM that means you have a Labour house. Over here, it's possible for the president to be of one party and the congress to be of another. And that has in fact been the case most of the time that the Democrats have held the White House. And so not only do they not get a liberal stuff done but they often have to do some serious strategic politicking to stop right wing stuff from getting done.
This will be the case should a Democrat be elected president this year. The House of Representatives has gerrymandered itself into something more resembling the House of Parliament in 1830, with seats being basically gifted to a chosen Republican. The Senate is the more open House in terms of any party getting the majority.

So, the Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, thinks that the National Education Association is a terrorist organization because they question the way in which the No Child Left Behind law is being implemented. I guess I should say not being implemented as it is nit being funded by the feds who forced it on us. I think it is a good idea but, money for the program would be nice.

However Lil forgot to add that only 1/3 of the seats in the senate are up for grabs every 2 years which meand that even a Tony Blair like landslide would not necessary wrest control of the senate until possibly 2 years further down the line. However, I do understand that a good showing by the democrates in the senate races this November could gain control of the senate as here the balance is finely poised.
