He's right, but he's never once espoused a tactic or strategy that went along with that theory. He's always talked about "winning" the war(s). So, in the end: b*llsh*t. Wonder what he was smoking before that speech?

Did you hear about Michael Moore? He's at the Republican convention as a journalist for USA Today, and John McCain described him as "a disingenuous filmmaker" and started a chant of "four more years" which manay delegates faced Moore in the press galleryand chanted at him.
Moore respodned: "Two more months! Two more months!" and,a sked about McCain's comments said "I can't believe they're dumb enough to bring up the film and help its box office."

*shakes head*
I had a lot of respect for Mr. McCain before his actions during this election. He was one of the few Republicans that I believed had grey matter between his ears. What happened to him? Doesn't he remember the dirty tricks Bush & co. played on him? Did the pod people get him?

'It does not matter if the war is not real. For when it is, victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, but it is meant to be continuous.' - George Orwell, from '1984'
'I don't think you can win it. [The "War On Terror"] But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world.' - George W. Bush

Well found indeed Ormy! I will probably pirate it. Soon

What McCain is doing is arranging to be annointed president in 2008.

Lil-
What's your justification for that?

McCain is towing the party line now, so that they'll support him in 2008. Good plan all around, b/c Cheney isn't as strong a candidate as McCain.
I think Powell wants to run also, which is partly why he isn't going to be secretary of state again. I think if Kerry wins in 2004, powell will win the republican nomination in 2008.

McCain's trying to play both sides. He's hoping the electorate remember his past iconoclasm within the Republican party--standing up to the moneyed interests and voting his conscience. Yet he's also supporting Bush this time around to signal to the conservative wing that he's on their side as well.
I'm very disappointed in him too. I thought he had principles. Clearly--especially in light of the his opposition Swift Boat Veterans brouhaha--he's a Republican party reptile.

Perhaps we're assuming that McCain had a choice. He may have been told, "Support Bush or we will assassinate your political career." They have motive and means to do so, they being the Karl Rovers.
Because a promise of the sort "and then we'll see that you're nominated for president in 2008" could hardly be depended upon from such a bunch of carnivorous opportunists.

Now who's flip-flopping? I heard something hideously disgusting on NPR. They interviewed Sen. Rick Sanatorum. Terry (sp?) Gross (sp?) did an amazing job remaining impartial and polite during the interview. Imagine if Bill O'Reilly were liberal and did that interview...
