Congratulations on the 1 km swim. It is a whole lot farther to swim a kilometer than it is to walk one.

When I was in college I swam in a 50m pool, it would take 20 lengths or 10 laps to make a km.

It all depends on how much length a length has Ben
I've swam in pools that have been 23m, 25m, 100ft, 50m all in the UK. OK so the 100ft pool was very old but the 23m pool is quite new still - it's 23m because it's a 50m pool split in two, a 25m section and a 23m section, the last 2m make up the rising walkway section between the two bits of pool.
This afternoon I ran away from students with a collegue of mine. Well we've got a new supercomputer to play with

I swim in a 25 meter pool. So it was 40 lengths, but very slowly! I wanted to see how long I could swim for, the answer. - I still don't know because I stoped when the 'length swimming' changed to 'family swimming.. too many children swimming widths.

Heh, heh... Serves them right, I say.
In 1998, a gorilla at the Dallas Zoo got loose and injured a few people - they had to shoot it. I believe that some animals, especially the higher primates, need to be kept in a more private, natural environment. These are obviously intelligent creatures and don't deserve to be in a prison - and the Dallas Zoo is really more of a prison than an environment.

And diagonals, and circles, and up-and-down... The pool at the YMCA has designated swimming lanes, and kids aren't allowed in them. Which I like, because changing directions to avoid hitting a kid always gets water up my nose.
Had a great time this weekend - made a small profit. I got rained out the last day, which I feel ambiguous about. We desperately need the rain, but why did it have to rain all over my new canopy and my Oriental rug? The rug is in the driveway, and it's STILL wet. (I had to wash all the mud off)

I'm trying my best to read some manuals for the new backup software that we have been sent to go with the whizzy new supercomputer. I've come to the section titled 'Mortal and Immortal Daemons'
Yup I do know what it's talking about but I think it's a great line to have in there

Phil - when I used to work at BT computer centre we used to have signs everywhere saying 'Remember Isaiah 19:9'
The coolest line in the Bible

Helpfully scratches Wooly's head for him, passes a specially designed scratching stick for Mammoths, somewhat larger than a cricket bat, and made out of willow too.

Just renewed my library books over phone, I thought one was nearly over due, but it seems all 7 are due back tomorrow, yikes, that was lucky, the fines these days for 7 books are quite steep!

Mmm.. I've started buying books because it works out cheaper than forgetting to return them for months has I have been known to do.

Oh come on 'They who weave networks shall be confounded'. It's a brilliant quote. What does the Good News bible change it to?

Yes! That's a perfect quote isn't it!
Depressing day in my office at the moment.

It is great for BT I agree but the one of the first links I found on the web had the text as this:
"Moreover those who work in combed flax, and those who weave white cloth, will be confounded"

Oh. Well that's dull. I much prefer the King James version. Although I'm struggling to find the translation link between 'White cloth' and 'networks', but there you go.

No I couldn't work that one either but then again being able to go back to the ancient hebrew isn't one of my strong points (or a weak point).
Key: Complain about this post
