There have been (and still are) several in my family. Now in these modern times, there are a few drug addicts as well.

Unfortunately, I have just had a little more bad news, although this time it's not my brother's doing. I just discovered that someone has stolen a great deal of prime fruitwood from my property, wood that I just paid a neighbor to cut down ad buck for me. It was standing deadwood apple, which is much prized for smoking meat in these parts.

Lil, this is not a good day for you. I hope that's it for the bad stuff.
Will you confront your brother?

I wish I had been there, but sometimes life happens.
I don't know that I am going to be well served by the next three hours. I already have my books, etc. and don't need to be here doing this library thing again.

You could always get creative with peanut butter. No, I didn't suggest that.
Lil, . Nothing is worse than not being able to help a family member, especially when the effort results in a betrayal.
I thought I had a theft this morning too, when I found the gate to my yard smashed in. It's simple to open but if you don't know the trick (pull up; bad hinges), it seems to be hopelessly locked. So it looks like someone who couldn't get it open tried to push it in until it jammed and cracked. But nothing is missing from the shed.

No, I won't confront my brother. It won't bring the stuff back and he would display contrition but wouldn't change. If I had the money, I would pay him to stay away.
The missing wood was the last straw. Anyone could have taken it because I don't have a gate at the front; brother moved it to the back when he was residing in the shed. But you would have had to know that the wood was there and that it had been bucked.
Do you know that feeling where you are pretty certain who the culprit is but you feel so rotten that you don't want to make the necessary scene for restitution? If it's who I think it is, they are dirt poor. I am depressed.
*sitting back in the sofa* So entertain me.

Lil, that's hard. You might, within their hearing, say something to someone else such as, "someone took my applewood. I really wish they would have asked first, since I'm happy to share." Or some such. They might be willing to confess then.

Lil, that absolutely sucks. I am sorry to hear of such goings on in your life.
