Witty Moniker

Caer, we've had our current bread machine for 8 years and that batch of dough came out of it. Unfortunately, the ingredients didn't mix properly and he didn't notice it until after the first rise was completed. He started the batch in the evening, set the timer and went to bed so we would have warm bread in the morning for breakfast. smiley - love

So in an attempt to save the batch, he kneaded it with my hand mixer and finished the bread in the oven. It came out quite well considering the unorthodox technique. And that was only the second time we ever had a mixing problem with that machine.

Titania (gone for lunch)

I've been trying to twist my sleeping time back into usual hours since I start w*rking again tomorrow after 4 weeks of vacation - instead I've ended up wracking my sleep rhythm completely...smiley - yawn

I stayed up until 4 am this morning watching repeats of old TV series such as 'V' (remember the lizards from space?) and Twin Peak - and watching TV usually makes me sleepy, but a 1 hour long nap in yesterday afternoon made me unable to fall asleep.

The night before that I stayed up until 3 am playing a computer game, sleepless after 2 hours of afternoon napping. Today I've decided to stay awake until bedtime despite longing for an afternoon nap again.

The trouble is that I can't stay asleep any later than 8 am because by then the morning sun has been shining on my bedroom window long enough to make a sauna of the room.

it is isn't it? I've been online most of the day, though doing some heavy stuff in PR. It's still too hot here, so I just want to flop down and do nothing really

I thought I remembered you saying you had a breadmaker, WM, the second after I hit the post message button smiley - silly

My Kenwood Chef has a dough hook, but I have nver used it. In fact, I rarely use the Cheff at all these days. On the odd occasion that I bake a cake I find the handmixer does a better job.

Anther scorchio day lined up tomorrow. I think I shall be giving the gym a miss if I feel as wrung out as I do today.

I made out like a bandit at the auction yesterday. I got 90 feet of double-faced steel gondolas and three pallets of steel shelves for the warehouse, a counter I can use for circ, the service desk which will be converted into cataloging and processing, folding tables, magazine racks, and a display rack for picture books for under $1200. Then I can just resell all of it next year and let the buyer move it away. Last year I had to pay $2200 for one 12 foot row of steel double-faced shelving with wooden endcaps - on sale!

Now, I have to hire a truck and some movers and go pick it up. It has to be collected by 5pm tomorrow. smiley - yikes

We still haven't gotten any rain. smiley - cross

Bryce, I wasn't offended. smiley - hug Trust me, I've heard a lot worse.

Toccata

Toc, back from a weekend on Aran.

Z, if you end up with Pootle, she comes with a Haynes Manual (amoung with other random ods & ends)

I would recommend getting one out of the libary for a look see in the meantime. (she's a 1972 1200 Beetle)

I went to Venice as a kid. I loved it, and it's on my list of places for a revisit.

smiley - wow Thanks for that Toccarta, I was about to wonder where I'd get one from, I'll pop into the library when I've found my ticket and order a copy so I can read up on the technical details.

Arran is such a lovely place, I had a brilliant holiday there when I was about 13, but I'm madly in love with all the scottish islands. Where abouts did you stay?

Looks lovely, i don't remember going there. I should do, the holiday to Arran was the first one where I did the map reading. I'll be taking Pootle to see if I buy her.

Looks like being a muggy night.

The furthest north I've been was the Kyle of Lochalsh, pre bridge days and we ran out of time to get over to Skye.

Skye is the futherest noth I've ever been. But next summer I'm going on a placement in the Lewis in the outer Hebridies, we get to arrange a term anywhere in the world. I've always thought of moving there, so I thought it would be a good time to see what it's like staying there for a few weeks.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

*comes in and flops down on the sofa, letting camcorder and water bottle come to rest on the floor by her feet*

I have SO many stories to share! It's been an interesting weekend.

I don't think any history boxes were sold at the Gallery this weekend. The owner's husband was so upset with the tourists coming in that he started picking fights with them, and they kept the gallery closed today rather than upset them further.

Was it the people who ignored the NO FOOD OR DRINKS signs, one of whom spilled his large soda all over the floor? Was it the family who observed the sign and drank their drinks then threw the empties on the lawn at the entrance? Was it the teenagers who tried to klep some of my greeting cards? No. It was the family who took Cille's stock greeting -- "Make yourselves at home!" seriously. Two teenage girls decided to go sit in the office, where the desk was piled with cash. When Kelly remonstrated with them, they yelled, "DAD! THIS LADY IS MOUTHING OFF AT US!"

But Dad had meanwhile gone into the gallery's kitchen, opened the fridge, and helped himself to a beer. That's where Joe found him.

Never mind, sez Cille, we'll sell all your boxes before Labor Day.

The usual horsey crowd descended on Cille on Friday, since she lets them put their horses up out back. So last night we allo had barbeque and talked horses -- and the people who ride and drive them -- all evening, while from the other side of town we could hear the gunfire (blanks) as the pageant was performed.

This morning featured the parade, but before that we went outside to watch for the trail riders, who had started down at Hondo, gone right up into the hills, and were then to come down the big shelf behind my property. As they came over the crest of the hill, they whooped and 'hollered'.

Well, the participants began to gather for the parade, and cars were vying for spots, so we all got distracted by what was happening on the street. I had my camcorder and was recording the whole event.

Then, after the parade, we realised that there was a group of six riders still way up high on the hill, apparently stranded. There was one horse, unsaddled and apparently in distress, and the other riders appeared to be dismounted.

We found out later that the horse had slipped, fallen and rolled a ways down the hill, and the others were looking for the rider! They found him, and somehow they reorganised and continued down the hill.

But not before we alerted an ambulance, loaned them our binoculars, and got a couple of riders to head up the hill and help.

Carmel Bunny, spokes stuffie for cute things everywhere

Backlog, backlog, backlog...*mutter, mutter, mutter* BACKLOG!

Sorry, just a bit over heated there, no trouble to anyone meant. Because of our recent computer troubles, Mac has asked, and I do say he cheated by asking nicely, that I read through the backlog and give him a summary. Bother! Stuff and nonsense, even! I do, I truly do, have at least half a mind to make up threads and let Mac make a fool of himself by responding. But all that aside, it is good to be back on line and to hear from you all.
