I imagine that some staff at the centres are full time and paid - and that those are the ones that make the descions on adoption policy. It's down to each indivdual centre whether they can afford to hold out for perfect homes.

I also think that as a lot of animal rescue homes are funded by volentery contributes those that don't enphinase unwanted animals are much more likely to get more contributions than those that do.

Just done my first on call of my new job and it was great fun - lots of work but it was all really interesting and all required lots of thinking.

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

1. He called everyone brother.
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

1. He talked with His hands.
2. He had wine with His meals.
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:

1. He never cut His hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was! an American Indian

1. He was at peace with nature.
2. He ate a lot of fish.
3. He talked about the Great Spirit.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments the Jesus was Irish:

1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:

1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead He had to get up because there was work to do.

I'll just get my coat.

tugboating -- well, tugboats have those big fenders yo protect their bows, and that reminded me of the way cats sit. They look like tugboats in the Bay of Living Room Carpet.

Hallo Not Him! Welcome to the Atelier! Have you had a look around the forum page and the offsite link?

Sorry about the laptop, gdz -- is it a software thing?

I've had a terrible afternoon, one that started with me thinking I didn't owe any tax and ending with me owing about, well, several hundreds more than I actually have. I don't know how I'll sleep until I get it sorted -- I have about 3 days. With the monitor down and still not replaced, so much work has backed up. smiley - sadfacesmiley - wah

That's never nice to find out lIl.

Somrthing I find people miss:

Have you hung on to paperwork for any and all charity donations made? Depending on your tax rate you can claim nice chunks of it back.

smiley - tea for Lil. I hope something gets sorted there.

BBC advertising? They advertise their own programmes and channels. Was it one of the digital telly adverts? I think they might be at least partially for public information.

Sorry about your laptop, GDZ. Is it fixable?

Lil, this is the last thing you need right now. smiley - hug Will they let you work out a payment schedule of some kind? Is it the self-employment fica and med fica? I ask because F was self-employed for much of our marriage. The first year that I started doing our taxes myself, I sent in what I thought was the correct amount - which was of course half of what it should be because we didn't have any employer's contribution. So we had this big payment to make when I wasn't expecting it.

I'm off in a bit for my regular Monday Mommy day.

smiley - hug for David. I fell off the pavement into the road this week (luckily nothing was coming) - scraped my knee like a six-year-old and had to have first aid when I arrived at work.

Ben, the living conditions of cats and dogs in the institution you describe sound rather better than those of many humans.

Right, back to the decluttering.

Hope everyone's Easter was great, whether religious or bunny-based.

My church played clips from the Narnia movie, a movie which has still eluded me. I've been able to lasso a wild copy of the DVD, but now it's hiding in my house, coming out of whatever hiding spot it has only when it knows that I'll be busy for a few hours, and thus incapable of viewing it.smiley - grr

Post-Lent Catchup:
I've caught up with Sluggy Freelance and Girl Genius. 8-Bit Theater and Dominic Deegan are technically next on the list, but I think I'll bump Schlock Mercenary up a few notches.

Yes, but there's more to it depending on your tax rate. If you're a higher rate taxpayer you can claim the other bit of tax back. this is the bit people forget/don't know.

So approx: if you give £10, then the charity can claim another £2.80, but you can also get £2.20 back at the end of the year. Handy if you're a high rate taxpayer with a chunky tax bill to pay.
