Very cool - so far that would have to be the leading contender for King of all pulldown lists.

The explanatory text is definitely an improvement too smiley - winkeye

Yeah, the text does help. I think that I should put it directly into the original drop down. Not sure if it'll affect the rest of the code thoughsmiley - smiley

Whilst your playing with the code could you change the spelling of my name - I'm not so trendy that I object to capital letters smiley - winkeye

I have traced the source of the original typing error & I will be hoisting her PETArd smiley - winkeye

Bruce, I have a question for you about the drop down boxes. Is there a way to make a drop down box that always has a list of the researchers that are currently online. If so can you give me the code for it so that I can put in my page.

Thankz
Ducky

Bruce did have a similar sort of thing going a while back, where he was able to check to see if a specific user was online, he might be able to do that. Although it wasn't in nice easy JavaScript but something else.

Thanks. I just wanted something a little better then the "Who's online" window. I was hopeing for just a drop down box that did the same thing.

Another question. Is there a way to create a java based almost chat room? I want to make a pub that has priviate rooms for people to use. Is there a way to make them? If so can you help me with them?

Yep you can build a javascript chat room. A number of researchers have built them in the past though they seem to die out fairly quickly as most h2g2 users prefer to leave messages in forums so they don't have to co-ordinate being online at the same time.

What you'll need to do is find a site that will host the chatroom that you include here on your h2g2 page. There are sites out there that will let you do this & provide the appropriate code, but I can't remember the names. I will keep my eyes open for something suitable though & let you know if I find one.

You should be aware that h2g2 has said that they will be restricting the use of javascript on h2g2 in the future - therefore any chat room you build will stop working when that happens.

Thanks Bruce. How about the drop down box that lists all the people that are online at the time? Is this possible?
