A29157933 - The Ten Commandments
*wakes up*
Blimey, I disappear off for a few days and there's 3 pages of posts...
First, let me apologise for my tone in post10 earlier. I see you folks have nicely swept my funny turn under the carpet within a few posts, so well done, the last thing we need is authors getting all cross about nothing in particular. So, sorry again, and moving on if it's OK with you...
Gnomon has a couple of good points in post14, both of which I will address somehow, possibly with footnotes, but I haven't decided yet:
The _other_ commandments.
Protestant and Catholic differences.
TRiG also has a fair point in post22:
The reference from the New Testament. Not sure what to do about that yet, and am considering rewriting that bit.
Various posts:
Footnotes. I'd agree that the footnotes on each commandment are too much. I'm thinking a single footnote early on to specify where the chapter/verses are. Probably I'll just enhance current footnote 3.
h5ringer and Giford:
Capitalisation of Bible and PowerPoint. Good spot.
Lio points in post60:
5th commandment. 'Parents'. Ooh interesting, Heavenly Father and all that. I might change this slightly.
9th commandment. The 'accuse others' bit. Yes, that's a bit poor. I'll tweak this.
Thanks folks. I'll post back here when I've done the updates.
Paff

I've been following this thread with interest, and I have to say I'm glad I offered this one up instead of taking it on myself!

>>Elsewhere, the Bible says that the law is written on our hearts, the implication being that we don't have to know the Old Testament off-by-heart to appreciate the difference between right and wrong.
moon That's http://www.biblegateway.com/bible?passage=Romans+2:14-15. And that's the New Testament. If you're writing about the Ten Commandments, it may be best to be more aware of a potential Jewish readership.<<
I thought he was referring to an Old Testament verse "It isn't in the sky or over the sea but in your mouth and heart to do."

Style comment:
>>Ah, but what about the promises? Well, if Jesus is to be believed, God wasn't intending the commandments to tie everyone up in knots with a bunch of rules that are there to be broken. Well over 1000 years after Moses went up Mount Sinai, <<
Starting the two sentences with "well", each having a different role, isn't the best.

It's just occured to me - you could link to my old Entry at A722242.
Or possibly I could get that one to link to this one, once this one is Edited.

Well, if Paff linked to my EGE on the word "Well" - A538058 - he'd get away with it

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Ooh look.
And I thought I still had some tweaks to make. Maybe I'll talk to the sub-ed about that.
