Irving Washington - Gone Writing Started conversation Apr 3, 2000
This is one article that needed to be written. Though I must confess, I'm not entirely sure what the title means... M2G2? Though I'm heterosexual myself, I often get very angry when I see, hear, and read discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender lifestyles. I participated in a gay rights march recently after a student was stabbed just off campus.
What confuses me most is that those who oppose same sex marraiges are the same people who accuse homosexuals of being incapable of staying in a monogomous relationship... their answer appears to be to deprive them of the one institution designed to support monogomy.

Well said Irving. Gay people are as likely to have serial monogamous relationships as straight people, while both will have their lay anything in sight crowd it is a minority and both are looking for a stable environment were the fear of the unknown is no longer a consideration.

I have occasionally tried to come up with theories to explain why some people have these stupid stereotypes, but they all give WAY too much credit to the bigots. The only one that works is fear of the unknown.

Fear of the unknown, plus fear of misguided fear itself.
I mean just cause I go to the gym and have to get changed and showered doesn't mean I'm going to have sex with any guy I see. Normally after a work out I'm too far gone to think about anything like that. I may admire a few well tuned bodies but you can tell in a changing room who is gay and who is straight.
Straight men always are trying not to look and gay men are trying to look but trying to be discreet. I mean I paly Rugby on an all gay team and that doesn't mean orgies after every match in the changing rooms. No most of us are in stable relationships and you don't want to date someone whose backside is in your face covered in mud and sweat every saturday afternoon anyway.

Well I think you're preaching to the converted here. My manager over the summer was Gay, and though he had the sort of flirty tone with everyone that was garunteed to get him good tips (he was the king of the tip jar) he never made me feel uncomfortable in the least.

Yeah I was doing a bit of research for a possible article in this weeks h2g2 Post. Our own weekly newspaper, and found you and Irv having a good discussion.

Right! Going to be controversial!
I think there is a certain ethic in certain gay circles which does provoke stereotypes to an extent. We've all met 'Scene' guys, who go clubbing with a single intention...
Before you lynch me - I do think there is a reason for this - and that is that when it is unacceptable to be on the lookout for prospective partners in 'normal' life lots of people find that they have to stick their necks out and thus go out on the pull in a way they shouldn't have to...

Are you referring to my research, if so Tony check my other postings. I'm actually looking into ot for a potential article backing Cupid Stunts Anti-Bigotry Campaign, and thought your M2M2 article would be worth checking out. if it was my slightly sarcastic post a few back I must apologise. It is 1am here.
