A Conversation for FANTASY FOOTBALL - Season 12 - "Say No to Mafia Bucks"
FF12 - Week Fifteen

Despite appearances to the contrary with this week's set of matches; I had not intended to show favouritism to one particular player in the competition. I had in fact always intend to do a full slate of Scottish Premiership matches. All I was waiting for was a weekend when Celtic and Rangers were playing each other, so I could drop them from the list.
Well that's my story, and I'm sticking to it
Dundee v Hibernian
Dunfermline v Kilmarnock
Hearts v Motherwell
Inverness CT v Dundee United
Livingston v Aberdeen
The closing time for all predictions is 12noon on Saturday 20th November
Oh, and don't expect me to be marking those matches until the Sunday, as I'm going to be up North(ish) at Pride Park on Saturday afternoon and won't be back home until late.

Well I've suffered something of a slump of late, though as some of you may have noticed I've not been online much either. RL has been getting in the way.
So whilst I've the opportunity to do a bit of research - here we go -
Dundee - 0 - 2 - Hibernian - Derek Riordan
Dunfermline - 1 - 1 - Kilmarnock - Billy Mehmet
Hearts - 2 - 0 - Motherwell - Dennis Wyness
Inverness CT - 2 - 1 - Barry Wilson
Livingston - 0 - 2 - Darren Mackie

Now my next dilemma is do I use the predictions. I've already posted in the Club supporters prediction league (but add the scorers) or go for a totally different set?

I never knew Motherwell were called the Steelmen
Two smug points to anyone who knows why Dunfermline are called the Pars?
(play the quizmaster, not the quiz!)

Very clever mate - nobody knows the answer. It could be:
They used to look like a fish - the Par - when playing in their home kit.
They are level with everyone else.
They are so bad they are called the Paralytics, or the Pars.
I'm sure there are more reasons, and that you will quote one that I don't know and have never heard of, but then that's the aim of this question, isn't it...

Is it because their fans always used to say:
**does comedy exaggerated grumpy-man slapping his thigh impression**
"Pah!"
...after a match?

All of those are among the favoured possible reasons but there is one more which (I think) is reasonably well-known... and so far, you're all playing the quiz and not the quizmaster

Mu Beta Posted Nov 15, 2004
Is it because they're a bit worse than a bunch of birdies?

Another reason Dunfermline may be called the Pars is that during the War a number of shipyard workers from the South Coast of England were relocated to Fife at the Rosyth shipyard. So it actullay may come from a flag waved during those years which represented Plymouth Argyle Roysth Shipyard.

Perhaps they play up to everyone's expectations - they are "Par for the course"

Mind you considering it was in the programme, yet again, of the last game we won I admit I do have some insider knowledge on the subject.

Well I'll personally be shouting that none of use get any points for game five on Saturday.
No one has even picked a Livi player to score first. Mind you I don't blame any of us, even me for thinking that.
