This does sound good; I'll try it out sometime this week, probably. Just one question - how long should the lentils be soaked before use?
Ivan.

i think the recommended is about an hour before... however, I have attempted to cook it without soaking it (being extremely lazy) and I think that if you use the small yellow ones you can get away with not soaking them at all.
I just dump everything into one of those microwaveable rice cookers and its done!

Looks good - I am not a 'spicy' eater myself (delicate constitution ).
One small point in the instructions section you say "Lower the flame"
I bet you have a gas cooker! For those with electric it may be better to say 'Lower the heat'

thanks for the comments. Will make the necessary corrections.

I can see you took the advice above about the gas/electric thing, but how it is worded reads a little odd to me:
"Lower the flame (or the heat if using an electric cooker), partially cover the pot and cook until the rice is cooked."
I have lived in places with gas stoves and electric stoves -- neither are what I would call a "cooker", which makes me think of a small, counter-top, plug-in device.

Hi MiniMy,
sounds really good. I can't fault the entry itself either.
How do you pronounce Khichdi - just like it looks, the "h" silent. What language is it?
Awu
P.S. I've eaten lots of dhal bat (sp).

hmmm.... The first 'h' is silent. However, I am not too sure on the language. Best guess would be Gujerati, as it is from that area?
