*Bumbles in looking frazzled*
Hey guys I'm sorry about the apparent lack of teacher!
I've contacted your teacher to check if she's still up for doing this. I really don't want to have to find a new one because it's such a bother So fingers crossed everyone.
In the meantime talk amongst yourselves. Anyone who has a better grasp of the language help those who don't. Either way it's a chance to see what you know already and get those rusty French cogs grinding.

Hi guys!
Sorry for my recent absence, but I'm in France at the moment and pretty much without internet access, otherwise I could help a bit with the teaching, but until the Summer it won't be possible, sorry.
Oh, and by the way, there might be errors in my French as I don't get the chance to write much French so don't take it as gospel!

I've heard about France and its famous internet connectivity issues.
Take your time. My French is a shame. Can't even translate that little.

Cyzaki Posted Mar 11, 2005
It's not connectivity that's the problem, it's that I don't have internet in my room so have to use the computer lab, which isn't always open when I want it

Salut!
J’ai une question :
How do I translate “I had a dream about blue dogs.”
« J’ai fait un rêve par des chiens bleus. » - Does that make sense ?
Thanks for your help!

"I had a dream about blue dogs."
"j"ai rêvé de chiens bleus" would be best. or perhaps "j'ai fait un rêve où il y avait des chiens bleus."
a note to all: i don't have time to give proper lessons, but i'm on hootoo most weekdays and can give little tips like this quickly.
and i'll try to wake up a couple of real froggies here who are better than i am.

Is there no translation for the preposition "about" in this context?
"où il y avait" sounds like a circumscription.

riotact : like a phoenix from the ashes Posted Mar 21, 2005
the translation of "about" could merit a conversation of its own!
it can mean so many things; here it means "concerning"...
usually this is replaced simply by "de" or "à" depending upon the verb
rêver de, parler de, penser à...
there is a verb "s'agir (de)"...what's it about? = de quoi s'agit-il? but you would never combine it with another verb.

Salut! Hi.
Je suis ici. I am here.
Maintenant, il semble faire du soleil, mais il pleura ce soir.
Now, the weather appears to be sunny, but it will rain tonight.
Salut! Bye.

Hi, I'm back on hootoo and can be your teacher if you'd like to
I don't know what bustle means but a thread here would be "conversation" or "forum"
"fil" is only needlework

Now, the weather appears to be sunny, but it will rain tonight.

Right. Um. Well, I am (rather laughably ) supposed to be Head of Department around here But seeing as I haven't spoken French for about a year (although I'm having classes again now) I don't doubt you're more adept than I am - would you be prepared to take the HoD role?

consevoir? consacrer.
as for the correct word for "thread", the french forums i contribute to generally use the word "sujet", but the english word "topic" is often seen.
Language Thing - French Teaching Thread 1
Cyzaki Posted Apr 11, 2005
Ah, yes, consacre, that's the word I was looking for problem is I've been learning most of my french from the TV and maths lectures, so I'm nowhere near perfect! Please correct my french "si je fais des betises" (if I make mistakes)...
