How many 'oldies' left?

Post 1

Cheerful Dragon

When H2G2 was announced on "Tomorrow's World" 5 years ago, I immediately scurried away to sign on.smiley - run

Having been a regular, almost daily, visitor since then, I'm wondering how many 'oldies' are still with us, and how often they visit. Just curious.smiley - erm

I joined in the September after that program (I actually forgot about it when mother daSilva heard about it on the radio and reminded me! smiley - yikes)

When I'm here I'm here all the time, though I have a habit of taking summers off...though now we have WiFi I can sit in the garden and...no, no, it's getting smiley - silly

smiley - biggrin

smiley - hug to all the oldies smiley - winkeye

Well I'm certainly pre-Rupert, thought I can't remember exactly when....

I'm here most of the time, except when I'm somewhere else, and even then I'm quite often here.

*Raises hand*

I registered on March 19, 1999. So I am actually a little older than h2g2. smiley - biggrin

I registered in September of 99... I only log on this account once or twice a month. My other account gets used several times a week though.

How did you manage to get here in March, WM?

Sorry - one other thing CD! I am a very regular visitor to H2G2, and have been for much of the time it is online. I usually have the site on all day on my PC, whether or not I have time to check up on the latest messages.

"How did you manage to get here in March, WM?"

Before we launched, we pre-registered all the email addresses we had on our mailing list (people signing up for more information) because we used the h2g2 database to run our mailing list, so when people who had given us their email address previously came to the site and signed up, they got one of the pre-registered accounts, and a spuriously early sign-up date.

I am older than Lucky Star (hee-hee). I joined January 2001. Pre-Rupert. I think there's a lot of folks out there who don't even know what 'pre-Rupert' means. I was actually quite sad during Rupert, and a bit surprised - and had mixed feelings about that - that BBC took over. It was a bit more adult before the BBC took over. And the Entries were funnier. Also, swearing was less problematic.

What the f*ck. Does anyone remember Barton, LeKZ and Hoovooloo?

Sh*t, it was good to use f*cking swearwords. I miss that.

HELL... Whet the Hell.

I'm pre-Rupert, but I missed Rupert. I came on with the launch of Starship Titanic. (I seem to remember getting some cryptic emails that lead me to http:\\www.h2g2.com\ ... I wish I still had those... different 'puter). I drifted away for a few years but have been back with a vengeance since then.

I also missed LeKZ.. but fortunately their backlog was still here so I caught up later.

Anyway, I'm not the lowest U# on the list but I'm not too far behind. I have yet to have to scroll down the 'Who's Online' thingy to find my nick. smiley - winkeye

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

"Well I'm certainly pre-Rupert"

Are you sure about that LS? I believe that GreyDesk claims to have signed up on or about the very day of Rupert, and his number is in the 160s smiley - erm

Yes I remember it well.

Although I think I may have had to create a new user ID afterwards...

I was U168206 and that was pre-Ruppert. I also found it too difficult to revive my old number and took the new one.

I had emails too after registering Starship Titanic. I only lurked a couple of times at h2g2.com, I was too shy to join up smiley - blush.

Gosho, I never claimed to have signed up around the day of Rupert. I signed up at least a couple of weeks before that. I was one of the first to sign up to the Yahoo 'lifeboat' purely because I was logged on when the the site went blank.

BTW have any of you seen SEF's rather cool record of DNA registrations? There's a page per year since the site started showing how many registered on each day. This is the 2001 page --> A1154666

I go back to October 1, 1999. Which makes me a newcomer compared to some of you in this thread - but still, it's hard to remember what life was like before I had h2g2 as a second home. smiley - biggrinsmiley - bubbly

I'm not sure when it was that I signed up. I didn't create my U-space until 10 October. When I get nostalgic I switch back to glorious goo.

Actually looking at SEF's 1999 page A1157997 I bet I was one of those unwashed masses on the ** date of 09.09.1999!!!
